12/26/25

10  SA   San Gabriel Stakes (GIII)

$100.000   3yo&Up   1 1/8m  Turf    3yo 122lbs   Older 124lbs  +penalties

We have a small field of five set to go a mile and an eighth on the lush SoCal lawn and we look at the field for the San Gabriel Stakes (GIII), and I think I’ll be putting all of my eggs in one basket for this one.

Sioux Arrival has a single win on the ’25 season, but it was a big one as he knocked down a huge payday in the KY Turf Cup (GII) in the field at KD.  He’s been close in a number of other big races and was only three lengths back with seventh in the BC Turf (GI).  This looks like a softer group to me, so let’s pile the money on him and see if we can go home a winner.

Return Of The Apache has been close in a number of recent races and makes for an obvious “name play” for the exacta, and Last Outlaw keeps the wild, wild west theme going, if you’re into that type of wager.

Here’s The Field –

 11  SA   Pincay Stakes (GII)

$200.000   3yo&Up   1 1/16m  Dirt    3yo 122lbs   Older 124lbs  +penalties

A very interesting group of nine will be headed postward on Friday afternoon and we look at the field for the Pincay Stakes (GII), a mile and a sixteenth trip for the gents… this one seems to have a bit of everything, including two Mb Stables auction horses, yet the big barn isn’t in this race – we will chalk that up to diaper duty!

I landed on Alive as the top choice today.  He’s fresh off of that Tokyo City Cup (GIII) win, over this track and at the distance… add in that he seems to be in the best shape of the year and you have a horse worth the wager.  If he can run back to either of his last two starts, I think he gets the win vs. these.

The minor spots are really open to me, but I’ll take Archduque for the second spot off of that tiring fourth at CD vs. a nice group.  That was the first start for the new barn and his second start for them could see some improvement.  I also like the rail horse, Break Dance.  I think the barn got a bargain at the auction, with this one, and that bullet work at AQU shows that the new connection have him on his toes… and he may be a price, to boot.
