Graded Races for 12/27

12/27/2025

The holiday coverage continues, and we look at graded races for 12/27/25…

6  GP     The Mr. Prospector (GIII)

$150.000    3yo&Up   7f   Dirt      3yo 120lbs  Older 123lbs  +penalties

I feel like I just covered this race… because I did, but why do it right when you can do it twice!  We look at the field of eight sprinting gents set to go seven panels in The Mr. Prospector (GIII), a main track event.  This looks like a race where I’ll concentrate on the outside posts.

With that being said, let’s give Excogitator the nod to get the win today.  Four seasonal wins and $427.000 in earnings this year, we will draw a line through that BC Sprint (GI) race and look at something more like that OBien (GII) win, which was at today’s distance.  He just seems to have the class edge here.

Let’s stay outside and give Bonus Baby the edge for the second spot… I think shortening up to the seven furlongs will be the key to success, and he could be a huge factor in the run down the lane.

Here’s the Field –

COZMAN Picks  8 / 7      Willie’s Green Card  8 / 5 / 4

  11 SA   Hernandez Stakes (GII)

$200.000   3yo&Up   6 1/2f  Turf     3yo 122lbs  Older 124lbs

The speedsters keep things going and we head back out west for the Hernandez Stakes (GII), six and a half furlongs on the down-hill turf and we have three from Spankys Barn, a duo from High Voltage…  but again, nothing from the big barn, so diaper duty must be taking over the stable.

Speaking of High Voltage, let’s go to the outside post and put his super-charged Moonligtonthewabash on top in this one.  When last seen, he was getting his picture taken when first (DH) in the BC Mile (GI).  That’s his only seasonal win, but what a great place to get the job done.  He’s been close in a number of other graded affairs, and the 3yo looks like a real menace to the grass sprinting group.

Mosquito tired badly when eleventh in the BC Turf Sprint (GI), but I think he can bounce back from that as the SA turf has been very good to this speedball.  He’s won the Clocker’s Corner and the Dayton (GIII) (DH) this season and has other wins and on the board races over this lawn… horses for courses.  I think Little Tiger has a chance to get part of the cash, as well.
