The Wayward Lass Stakes
$125.000 For Fillies And Mares Four Years Old And Upward 1 1/16th on Dirt
Tampa Bay Downs, Tampa Fl.
Midnight Rumble from Riggins Racing finished slightly stronger than Lab Virus from Saratoga Stud when they met in The Turnback The Alarm Stakes at the Big A in early November. Both mares have been away from the races since and both should be fresh in their respective 2026 debuts. If they both fire fresh, it’s hard to separate them here. Scottish Shortbread from YME Stables is a four year old filly trying two turns for the first time. “Bread” is interesting here because of her gas. If she takes to the two turns she could be long gone as her number sprinting is certainly good enough when looking at the body of this field. Star Sapphire from John Henry ran a big number in her last start of 2025, her second for the barn off a $75,000 private purchase. Regardless of what happens in front of her, “Sapphire” should be rolling from the back.
Of The Rest –
Jersey Delight from Night Rider Stables immediately proved herself a good claim by winning two straight. The barn then raised her up to graded stakes where she finished off the board in her next two starts. She should come out and settle here loosing no ground and then make one big move. She could actually be the horse to beat if she fires based on her number earned in New York.
Query Business from Williams9 is interesting. Her best number showing in her recent form is on dirt, but five of the six recent races are on the grass. Her two routes are both wins, while the other four races are sprints. She should be a real good price and could pay dividends today. Add her to all exotic wagers.
Dispatch Driver from Nakamura Stables has one victory from ten trys going two turns in her twenty-four race career. Good post and solid barn, but she looks in deep waters here.
Complicated Crazy from Twin Towers Racing is zero for four going two turns and is stuck on the outside in a race with far too many proven routers to be considered. The fact that she comes out of a highly rated sprint two start back at Santa Anita would be her only possible angle here.
