A Bod For Sin Looks for Hat Trick in California Cup Oaks

California Cup Oaks 1 Mile on Turf

A Bod For Sin from La Canada Racehorses looks for three straight or as we say in ice hockey, the hat trick. She is obviously razor sharp and drops in with state bred rivals here. Even though her numbers do not top the charting, her experience going two turns coupled with her change in attitude and maturity might just click here at a fair price. She has stamped herself as the horse to beat. Song Of The Angels from Riggins Racing is only one for seven in the win column, but until the boil over in the Breeders Cup she has been right there every start. Freshened since Halloween, expect her to come out with tenacity. Hard to separate the two fillies that come out of the Durante Stakes. Defy Expectations from Aer Stables and Shot Of Summer from Diablo Diablo were both on the wire together while running second and forth in the small field of five. Either one of them could fire here.

Of the rest:

Viscancia from Nakamura Stables has two solid runs against far lesser rivals in her last two starts, both going two turns. Never worse than second in her six-race career, it can be viewed as a positive sign that a capable barn takes a shot here. Will still need improvement to play ball.

Mrs Officer from Noblepark is interesting. She was purchased at auction for just under $50,000 and given three solid months off. Comes back in a stakes race for her new connections and could pay quick dividends. Keep a close eye on the tote board.

Magnolia Lane from Mo Mentum Farm has a good pattern. She broke her maiden and then won at first asking with winners going two turns on turf. Now shows up here. She has a solid late kick and might be set to surprise a few in here.

Touch Grass from Mb Stables gets an obviously tough post for this assignment. Never a smart thing to leave the country’s perennial top barn off your ticket, but this might be a time that you can get away with it. Then again…

Mabel from Bigchief Stables is two for four, both times she scored was going two turns on turf. Still, she would need solid improvement to get close today.

Commute from Chili King Stables ran solid enough in her last three races of 2025. However, the rail draw might force her jockey’s hand a bit and that doesn’t look like a good thing from my vantage point. Watch her effort and judge for next time.
