Shot of Summer Makes Her Late Rally Count as She Wins California Cup Oaks

California Cup Oaks 1 Mile on Turf

Purse $175.00 For Fillies Three Years Old Foaled In CA.

Santa Anita Park, Arcadia, Ca

Shot Of Summer from Diablo Diablo followed up her good effort in the Durante Stakes at Del Mar to score today in the Cal Cup Oaks. She was under a tight hold most of the way and when let loose she was a little too much for the rest of the Cal bred fillies to handle. Congrats to the connections. “Summer” is now three for eight and just over $300,000 in earnings. A Bod For Sin from La Canada Racehorses ran game in defeat, losing by just a length in her attempt at three straight. “Sin” ran tenacious to hold second by a whisker over Defy Expectations from Aer Stables who ran a monster herself from post nine. Song Of The Angels from Riggins Racing showed solid speed and fought hard before tiring in deep stretch and held sway to round out the superfecta.

Of the rest:

Viscancia from Nakamura Stables sat mid pack the whole way and while unable to make up ground on the horses in front of her, she also did not back up from her fifth-place position.

Mrs Officer from Noblepark settled near the back and was only able to make up slight ground today.

Mabel from Bigchief Stables came out seventh by three lengths and never made a move forward or backwards to roll sevens the whole trip.

Touch Grass from Mb Stables came out last and showed no real speed and only was able to pass a couple horses to run eighth. Tough post draw today.

Commute from Chili King Stables was sent along pretty hard from her rail slot and got into decent position but then backed up from the half mile pole home to run ninth.

Magnolia Lane from Mo Mentum Farm had no early speed, got jostled slightly early on and dropped back to last where she was unable to mount any sort of rally and ran last.
