Guapo Dominates Early and Holds Sway Late to Take Down Leonatus Stakes

Leonatus Stakes 1 Mile on Dirt

Purse $125,000 For Three Year Olds.

Turfway Park, Florence, KY

Guapo from Mb Stables was left alone on the lead, and he made good use of his speed today, going gate to wire to take down the Leonatus Stakes. Congrats to the connections. Guapo is now two wins from seven starts and has earning approaching $200,000 Political Asylum from Nakamura Stables was able to transfer his Ohio form to Kentucky and ran a banger for second. He made up three lengths on the winner late, but just missed getting the win. His connections have to be thrilled with his effort today. Appealing Brandy from The Sidley Stud came out and sat last, then started a nice rally himself and missed being on the wire by about three quarters of a length. Nice effort today and looks headed in the right direction. Resurgent from DJC Racing Stables took far more public money than expected and sat a good trip the whole way before tiring slightly late to run fourth from his rail post.

Of the rest:

Mastery from DJC Racing Stables looked the part in the form, but never really looked comfortable today in a puzzling effort. Nothing to report on the vets list, so we will have to wait and see,

Vortex from Twin Towers Racing was unable to show much today and ran in spots slightly. Check him out closely if he drops in class.

Grim from South Shore Stables was unable to bring his form with him today and backed out of it to run last. Another that should be watched with a return to home cooking.

*Early wagering favorite Puppet Master from Riggins Racing was a late scratch.
