Chilly Spices Up Wishing Well Stakes at TP

Wishing Well Stakes
6 1/2 furlongs Dirt Stake Purse $125.000 Fillies And Mares Four-Year-Old And Upward. At TP

1st      Chilly             La Canada Racehorses              10-1 (HRP) 5-1 (SRF)

That is some hot Chilly! She loves it at the La Canada Racehorses stables where she has won four of seven starts and now this beautifully tactical run over six furlongs at TP where she opened fourth stalking the leaders closely and had the lead by the time they entered the stretch. From there, she was just twitching her tail at them as she cruised down the lane to a half-length victory that was easier than the margin would indicate. She will soon enough be spicing up the graded ranks with her versatile sprinting abilities.

2nd      Liable                      Robeth                      25-1 (HRP) 10-1 (SRF)

Liable jumped back into stakes racing with all four hooves by going straight into the grade 1 La Brea Stakes and, although she closed a bit late, a three-length loss did not impress. Well, she showed us today that the difference between grade 1 and high-level stakes can show up in performance quite spectacularly as she stormed from seventh to second, falling only a half-length short of all the marbles and proving that she is, indeed, ready for stakes racing.

3rd     Absent Friends            TwinTowersRacing                 5-1(HRP) *9-5 (SRF)

Ever since her second in the $100.000 Lady Erie, Absent Friends has been placing so well that I was prompted to make her my favourite choice in this race. Well, I was three-quarters shy of that prediction as she ran a determined race throughout and was closing on the winner at the wire.

4th      Sheza Creepy Witch           Babyhead                  7-1 (HRP) 20-1 (SRF)

I didn’t write Sheza Creepy Witch off completely, in fact I had some nice things to say about her recent form, but my 20-1 odds and placing her last in my handicap didn’t exactly scream confidence. She, however, had other ideas and turned in a very nice performance, stalking the front runners to the stretch then tightening it up to finish fourth only a length off the winner at the end.
