Nakamura Stables Dead Heats San Pasqual Stakes at SA

San Pasqual Stakes – Grade II
1 1/8 Mile Graded Stake Purse $200.000 Four-Year-Olds And Upward. At SA

1st      Special Event      Nakamura Stables                     5-1 (HRP) 4-1 (SRF)

See? I told you Classic Look would win this race. Special Event scored his third straight stakes win as a dead heat with stablemate Classic Look in the San Pasqual Stakes today. His 27th race was his first stakes race. His next three races were stakes wins. Looks like his next start has to be a grade 1 at his current pace, and of course I expect a win. Special Event followed just a length behind Classic Look in the early going, allowing that one to start his run on the backstretch while he began his run around the far turn so that he was within a length of his stablemate at the top of the lane. From there, it became a classic horserace with the two of them eventually coming to even terms at the wire.

1st      Classic Look          Nakamura Stables                   *3-1 (HRP) *4-1 (SRF)

See? I told you Special Event would be very nice support for his stablemate. Classic Look got so much support that he got a dead heat from his stablemate. That there was a dead heat was a bit of a surprise. That it was the same stable, not as surprising considering it was a quality stable such as Nakamura Stables. Classic Look looked to me the class of the field with a strong history of winning performances against quality competition. It sure looks like Special Event is on his way to becoming the same sort of class horse as his stablemate. Just look at the description of their battle described above.

3rd      Hurricane Ridge                 The Sidley Stud             8-1 (HRP) 8-1 (SRF)

Hurricane Ridge has been struggling to pay back his purchase price, hence the 8-1 odds. This wake-up third will help with that problem. I mean it’s not a massive return, but it’s a positive start and a sign that he is heading in the right direction. He jumped out of the gate immediately in contention, took the lead down the backstretch and carried on down the stretch until the Nakamura pair overhauled him at the wire.

4th      Dont Ever Try It           Night Rider Stables         14-1 (HRP) 6-1 (SRF)

As usual, Dont Ever Try It was at the mercy of the pace, and it could have gone a little faster or there could not have been two talented closers in front of him or he could have placed early in eighth rather than last, whatever, fact is his very nice closing drive fell a length short, and he got fourth and probably another nice SRF number.
