The Suncoast Stakes [KYO]
TAM Race #6 1m 70 Dirt Stake
Purse $125.000 For Fillies Three Years Old.
1 Quiet Heat The Sidley Stud Rodriguez A R 120
We often see good horses from this stable breaking their maiden at the lowest level so it was no surprise to see this one win at FP before going on to run a big race for third in the Busanda. A closing type so this draw may not be ideal she should get a run late if they drift off the rail as usual so it will all depend on the AI decisions made by her jockey. The stable has been in great form for a while now and she looks a big chance.
2 Whirlwind Spirit Acber Farms Curtis B 120
Won two in a row before flying late and nearly grabbing the win in the Santa Ynez last time she certainly deserves another shit and gets a great chance from the draw today. More of a mid-pack runner than a closer she will need some race engine luck but will get more favors than some and I very much like the jockey booking here finding a way to get a challenge in down the stretch.
3 Zeibekiko Night Rider Stables Carmouche K 120
Claimed cheaply this one has followed a path that the stable has traveled before going straight to stakes racing after the claim and running very nicely at the higher level. She closed hard to be a close third in the Tempted but then found the Starlet too hot last time out so she will be better suited back in grade here. I am still unconvinced she is a KYO type but her form says she is entitled to run well.
4 Valley Center Nakamura Stables Castillo I 120
Won her maiden and allowance very nicely before running a cracker in the Princess Elizabeth at the end of her juvenile season. Her on speed third in that competitive race saw her made favorite for the Cash Run on seasonal debut but she was shuffled to the back that day and had no real chance of winning despite making late ground. She has a good chance at making amends today and looks very competitive.
5 Lady Jane Grey Big Jd Racing Rodriguez Jam 120
Well despite some fairly average public works her form has a very consistent look about it which may be more down to her running style than anything but is certainly a plus when looking for a winner. An on-speed type she was inches from holding on in the Gasparilla last time but just went down so is certainly in the mix on that. To me she looks more of a sprinting type, but it is almost impossible to tell these days at HRP so I wouldn’t be writing off her chances, I am just not sure she appeals to me.
6 Southfork Royalty Stables Ortiz I Jr 120
All her races have been at state bred level but I really like the progress she made last year and was impressed with her maiden win last time. Her works are strong suggesting this grade is in her reach and her pre-race purchase price certainly suggests the stable has always had a high opinion. She is the dark filly here in my books and is certainly a winning chance.
7 Party At The Shire Nakamura Stables Gallardo A A 120
Ran up three in a row before losing her unbeaten record in the Gasparilla last time as an odds-on favourite so will be looking to make amends here. I think she got caught out stalking a fast pace in the Gasparilla so may go back to her old running style as it was probably the draw that beat her that day. Certainly, among the winning chances in a race full of them.
8 Miss Claudia Angelos Stable Rosario J 120
Hasn’t raced beyond six furlongs yet but has always looked like she wanted further. She dies have something to prove at this level but two good runs in lower stakes company says there is some ability there and of the trip works in her favour she could get into it.
9 Grey Tart Panionios Racing Davis D 120
We are more used to this stable dominating CT than running in stakes races but this one is certainly good enough to draw the trainer away from their favorite track. A strong worker she has only has three starts and was eye catching in her last when tackling a stakes race. This field is stronger than that one, but the experience and this longer trip may well see good improvement.
10 Idlingawaythehours Riggins Racing Geroux F 120
Well, we are seeing some big purchases as these qualifiers roll in and this one was one of the biggest attracting a bid of $450.000 to take her from Fractious Stable. I must admit I am not seeing what the stable saw in that price, but she did run an eye-catching race in the Oak Leaf finishing second from a mile behind. Her running style may be the biggest obstacle in repaying the debt she owes but if she gets it right there is no doubt she can run into the KYO as a big chance.
11 Thermal Energy Mb Stables – Scratch –
12 Tonic Wine Williams9 Bridgmohan S X 120
OK in overnights she has been pretty disappointing when taking on stakes level so with a poor draw to add to that record it is hard to enthuse about her chances.
13 Annie Dog Shore Stables Hernandez R M 120
Gets in off the ballot and whilst her wins have all come at low level, she is certainly worthy of a crack at this level. Winning her last three she will go back from this draw and rely on race engine luck in the form of a strong pace and clear path and whilst that isn’t enough for me to bet on her there are certainly scenario’s that see her winning.
SUMMARY
A tight little contest it is hard to see a clear winner here. I am going to go for unexposed form here with Southfork and Party At The Shire but there are ten other others, most of which have as good a chance if not better.
