Apirana delivered a powerful performance in Sunday’s $500.000 SUN Derby, rallying from off the pace to capture the 1 1/16-mile Kentucky Derby prep for three-year-olds at Sunland Park. The chestnut gelding by Bold Ruler demonstrated tremendous determination and class, rating patiently in mid-pack through honest fractions before launching a sustained rally under Lanfranco Dettori’s masterful handling that carried him to victory in the final stages.
