Blooming Attack’s narrow loss in the CA Cup Derby was enough to garner favouritism and a slight change in tactics from recent races was just enough to pick up a giant purse and a guaranteed trip to the Derby. Rather than jumping into the lead, as he had in his last three starts, he laid back in a close stalk in fifth in the early going, worked his way up to be second coming into the stretch to take the win going away.

2nd      Mystic Caller                D J C Racing Stables      10-1

Lightly raced Mystic Caller had never really been tested at this level but had been a reliable closer in all four starts coming up to this so was a mild longshot and gave a courageous showing coming from ninth to work his way up to a fast closing second.

3rd        Art Of Boom                  Nakamura Stables                 11-1

Art Of Boom bounced back from a disappointing performance in the SUN Derby last and made a strong run here, taking the lead from the get-go and carrying the lead well into the stretch before weakening slightly into third.

4th      Open Invitation                        Mb Stables                      5-1

Second favourite Open Invitation, thanks to his win in the Grade III Southwest last out, followed the field from afar and waited too long to make his move finishing fourth only a length back.
