4 GP The Hurricane Bertie (GIII)
$150.000 4yo&Up F&M 6 1/2f Dirt 124lbs +penalties
It’s going to get interesting in SoFla on Saturday as the gate looks full for The Hurricane Bertie (GIII), a six and a half furlong sprint for the older ladies. Interesting you say? Any time Lady Sammyantha is in the gate, it’s qualifies… even if she is 8yo now. We also get a serious weight impost as Houseofidentity, fresh off of that score at SA in the Lukas Stakes (GII) carries four more than the rest of the field… so, do they scratch her and Anatolia draws in? We have to wait and see.
Let’s add a bit more to the storyline as Lille, the BC F&M Sprint (GI) champ is in the three hole, and she is my top pick. She’s being handled to perfection, winning the SSM F&M Sprint to kick off the year, and being a state-bred race she gets no additional weight. Add in this mare runs well on grass or dirt, and I just love her form.
Let’s put Lady Sammyantha in the second spot… she kicked off her 8yo season with a solid third over this track in the In Information (GII) – she needs no further words, with over $5k in the bank and twenty lifetime wins… if you don’t know her, you’ve been under a rock for far far too long.
Let’s put Brusilov Treat in the third spot, getting her season started with a runner-up effort in the fore-mentioned Lukas (GII) so she’s looks sharp and avoids the weight-add.
There’s a few others that deserve a look, but we have to keep the wagers in check and try to land a winning ticket.
