First Stakes Win for Magenta in The Hutcheson Stakes

The Hutcheson Stakes
$100.000 For Three Year Olds
6 Furlongs – Dirt
Gulfstream Park – March 14, 2026

The skies threatened but the rain held off and allowed the six competitors in the Hutcheson to battle it out fair and square on a fast track. When all was said and done it was Alydar Stables’ Magenta, a homebred colt, who emerged victorious.

Winner: Magenta (Alydar Stables/J. Rosario) Details Matter/Purple Charger (Rumble) Sat near the back of the small field and swung wide with a quarter mile to go. Found clear running and ran down the pacesetters to hit the wire nearly a length in front.

Second: Attacker (Riggins Racing/N. Juarez) Sioux Attack/Watch Me Go (Residue) Was midpack running comfortably behind the stalkers. Found a hole at the top of the stretch as the pacesetters began to tire. Ran strongly to the wire but could not hold off the winner’s charge.

Third: Cosmic Energy (Mb Stables/E.J. Zayas) Solar System/Cyclonic Storm (Commanding The Storm) Was the trailer throughout and responded well when asked to run. Found nowhere to run when set down in the stretch and did the HRP shuffle throughout most of the last furlong. The rail seemed like the most likely path but instead of moving inside the tiring Megabyte the rider chose several path shifts behind the pack before finally finding room to run on the outside. Flew when free and barely missed gaining second. Might have been best.

Fourth: Grim (South Shore Stables/J. Bravo) Cherokee Sunset/Commanding Ash (Commanding) Gained the catbird seat stalking the speed in the two path. Responded when asked and looked like a possible winner at the top of the stretch but was not strong enough to beat the top three to the wire.

Preview Pick: Megabyte finished sixth and last. Three-year-old debut had to be disappointing to connections.

The Hutcheson was the first stakes win for Magenta. He became the first stakes winner produced by both his sire Details Matter and his dam, G1 winner Purple Charger. It was the first win in this race for Alydar Stables as well as jockey J. Rosario. The win brought Magenta’s total earnings to $78.36. He is TC nominated so it will be interesting to see where he goes next.
