Bank Robber Gets the Cash in BG Stakes

BG Stakes Grade 1 Purse $1,250.000 For Three Year Olds

1 1/8th on Dirt       Keenland Park, Lexington KY

Bank Robber from Our Athletes made it two-for-two going long by winning The BG Stakes Saturday in front of a packed house in Lexington. He went off as the betting favorite and did not disappoint, as he got up to best front runner and our top pick Quantum Pursuit from Mb Stables by a half-length. Congrats on the big win to all the connections. The aforementioned Quantum Pursuit broke well and moved in from his outside position to take up the running in a game effort. He made just about every pole a winning one until the last 40 yards. Starbright from TwinTowersRacing caught our eye as a horse that could run a banger and he did, getting a nice third place check for the barn. He looks to be improving now and coming to hand. Southwind from Acber Farms ran a solid race and rounded out the superfecta action. This was a big effort after the Tampa Derby fiasco where he got too far back. Given the better positioning shown today I would think he is just about ready to break through again.

Of The Rest:

Self Love also from Mb Stables was in good position the whole way but just couldn’t get to the top four late. Did well to hold down fifth place.

Filly West Coast Girls from Diablo Diablo was unable to get close early and was simply left with far too much to do here late. It was an admirable effort by the young lady to beat out eight males today with that trip.

Meekshallinherit from Big Jd Racing came out and settled in seventh and was unable to get any further today in an even effort.

Mayor Of Win City from Mo Mentum Farm broke near the tail of the field and made some late progress, but nothing close to threatening. It will be interesting to see what surface he lands on in his next assignment.

Chasing Magic also from Mb Stables made a little late headway but nothing more than catching some tired animals late without having any real race impact. The stables next move with him will be interesting.

Hades from Serenity Stables just circled the oval today and put in a disappointing effort for a $300.000 purchase. Not exactly what the connections were hoping for in their first start with him. He looks to have plenty of room for improvement however and will most likely do so as he matures.

Connect The Dots from First Flight Stable had an eventful journey from his poor post and showed some guts for most of the trip before tiring late and folding the tent. Look for a probable drop-in class for his next start where he should be a live wire.

Colt Of Personality from Alydar Stables was out ok and gained a decent enough position but succumbed to the race class after a mile and ran twelfth. It can be noted that he only has a maiden win on his resume, so he has plenty of possible seasoning left.

Mystic Caller from DJC Racing Stables appeared to take a bad step at the half mile pole and looked to never fully recover in his action. An extremely poor showing for a horse that just ran second in The Rebel Stakes and had a lot of people hoping high. Expect a bounce back effort in his next start.

Liams Map also from DJC Racing Stables broke poorly and was all done after the halfway point, was not ridden hard on the run to the wire and just ran evenly afterwards. Nothing to report from the vets list at this time.
