The Sidney (Grade 2)- $500.00 Purse
CD- For Fillies and Mares Three Years Old and Upward
Five and a Half Furlongs on the Turf
May 1, 2026
There was every reason to like Frozen Mist in the Sidney. Fresh off of two impressive wins, and consistently performing well on the turf, she seemed like she would be well bet at the window. She would be the post-time favorite, as well as being our pick, and she did not let anyone down. The five year old mare out of Maxmillion Farm ran in the Sidney much like she did three weeks ago in the Grade 2 Giants Causeway, and it would again be the winning formula. It’s the first win in the Sidney for Maxmillion Farm, and the second for jockey S X Bridgmohan. Congratulations to them! The time of the race was 1:02.41, the second quickest in the race’s history when running this distance. Let’s take a look at it now!
(1/4 Mile- :22.39)- Four horses battle it out for the early lead, and it will be the one on the outside, the Our Athletes- trained Shine To Class, with a slight advantage over the other three. Stellar Strength, running on the rail for Mb Stables, is credited with the second position, with an ever so narrow edge on our eventual winner, Maxmillion Farm’s Frozen Mist. Trumpino decides to race today, and is also with these three, for TwinTowersRacing. China Grove is a length behind them for Xcel Racing, and Confident Elegance (Maxmillion Farm) will also stalk the pace. There’s a break of about two to the remaining three, who are running alongside one another: Jean From Winter Pen (Robeth), Sannys Legacy (Threshold), and Night Cruise (Mb Stables).
(½ Mile- :45.09, Top of Stretch, 1.5F To Go)- Frozen Mist will poke a head in front just prior to beginning the run around the turn, and as she handles it well, she will pull out to nearly a full length over second place Stellar Strength. That’s the only one of the initial four frontrunners that can stay with Frozen Mist, as both Trumpino and Shine To Class lose more ground. China Grove does not make any progress, and Confident Elegance also loses ground. Of those that had been at the back, Jean From Winter Pen starts to mount a run on the rail, but both Sannys Legacy and Night Cruise were coming up empty.
(Finish- 1:02.41)- Frozen Mist continues to run well in the stretch, and she would need to, as Stellar Strength was able to match her pace. This means that she was the same half length behind for the stretch run, and only getting slightly closer to the wire. With that, Frozen Mist secures her third straight win, with Stellar Strength claiming the second spot. Shine To Class was steady enough in the stretch to hold third over a fourth place dead heat between Jean From Winter Pen and China Grove. Rounding it out, it’s Trumpino, Sannys Legacy, Confident Elegance, and Night Cruise.
About The Winner- Frozen Mist, trained by Maxmillion Farm and ridden to victory by S X Bridgmohan, is a five year old mare by Thoughtful Idea and is out of Ice Angel. She was bred by Wood Duck Stables as a first quarter two year old in New York, and was acquired by Maxmillion Farm for $100.00 in a May 2025 private sale. Congratulations to the connections! The win is her ninth in 20 starts, her fourth stake win and third graded win. Her career earnings are now $2,200.69.
