Royal Palm Juvenile Fillies
GP Race #3 5f Turf Stake
Purse $125.00 For Fillies Two Years Old.
With every filly bar one ‘unbeaten’ there will be a lot of perfect records soiled in this race. We don’t have much to go on apart from one race, a few works, confo and breeding but we will do our best to sort these out into the maybes and the not so maybes.
Here is how they line up:
1 It Dont Come Easy TwinTowersRacing Juarez N 118
Came from behind over seven and a half furlongs to win on debut at PRX but will need to show plenty of earlier pace today to avoid being buried on the rail and left praying for gaps. Her winning time was slick enough and coming from the KYD winning stable and a half sister to the winner she carries a lot of weight on many fronts. Her turf work was good enough to say she won’t mind the surface and though it is likely that five furlongs will never be her preferred trip this early in the season it should be fine.
2 Public Account Riggins Racing Vasquez M A 118
Won her maiden at TUP in a fairly slow time so may find a few of these too fast for her today. They went very quick early on in that maiden win though so there could be excuses for tired fillies at the end contributing to the average time. She ran on nicely that day, helped in part by the pace, but nevertheless showed enough willing to give her a shot in this race off the perfect draw. Her lightly used sire has done pretty well with a reduced book.
3 Parisienne Of Note Barcelona Farms Murphy O 118
The stable seems to have a runner in every juvenile race at this time of year so we can only assume that this is one of the best of a multitude of runners that they could’ve placed in this race. That in itself is a big tick especially as Barcelona Farms is well known for producing turf runners. A good winner at CT she showed enough speed to lay up on the oval track and ran on well enough at the end to suggest this extra half furlong will suit. She has breezed well since that early win and must be on the short list.
4 Its Yesterdays Blazin D Torrealba J 118
Won her maiden at PRX in a little bit quicker time that It Don’t Come Easy and showed plenty of speed at heart to get home by a nose. She has had plenty of time to get used to the grass on the gallops and a mix of running style, form and works make her a big chance. Her sire has produced nothing of note so far and was best over longer trips but as we know the logic of breeding only becomes apparent in hindsight most of the time.
5 Dark Crush High Voltage Maragh Ro 118
Another that showed plenty of early speed and heart to win on debut her winning time at TUP was not as good as the PRX winners but was good enough to take a second look. Her warmup turf work was 58 flat but it was on the downhill turf track at SA so may not be as good as it looks but her breeding certainly is being a daughter of the successful sire Our Dark Knight. Her Dam was also a grade one winner so there is plenty of good blood in her veins.
6 The Balance Sheet Family Racing Egan D 118
The only filly that hasn’t won yet to get in the lineup, she does so for her second in a big-ticket maiden at KEE bringing her a better reward than some of the winners in this field. She ran form a tough draw on debut but still showed enough speed and heart to hold second and with a better alley today she may be worth a look at. Her turf work was as good as any of the previous winners in this race and she will look to continue what is turning out to be a good season for Family Racing.
7 Poor Truth The Sidley Stud Husbands M J 118
The trainer has been in stellar form these past few seasons and this filly will look to be an early marker for them in the juvenile races. I liked how she ran the pace on debut and still had plenty left to hold on readily in a good time and a glance at her works since then tells us just how much she has improved since that debut. Fast six-furlong times are usually a great marker for the big juvenile races, and she managed to break 1.12 on the dirt signaling plenty of ability. By the great Spankersville who looks to be making a great start to his stud career she will be top of many lists.
8 Grand And Lucky Greyhound Camacho Sa 118
Won a similar race to Poor Truth at AQU but ran quicker throughout than that filly which gives her a big chance. Just the one public work over three furlongs tells us very little and her graded stakes winning sire whilst early in his career had yet to produce anything out standing. There isn’t much to go on but I have a feeling this filly may be very good and could be the dark horse in the race.
9 Pot Pon Fire Night Rider Stables Reyes Le 118
The daughter of Clockwork Chai we know she will like the surface and her maiden win at TUP was one of the faster maidens at the track. She showed plenty of pace and kept running all the way home that day and they her previous dirt works were only average I think she may be improved for the grass under her hooves.
10 Decima Change Williams9 Bridgmohan S X 118
It is nice to see the name Decima represented here and although we have to look a bit further into the past these days to find his turf influence it is always there. A gutsy winner on debut at AQU in the fastest time of all the runners today she has since worked some very encouraging turf times suggesting she could be in for a big run today. The trainer has been pretty successful with their juveniles in recent years and the only thing that puts me off a little is the draw. A wide draw for an inexperienced horse over five furlongs is tough to overcome but of she can find a good spot in transit she is sure to be a big chance.
11 Twin Lucy Red Fox Farms Khelawan K 118
A good winner in a slow time at FP whilst it is true all she could do was win it is not inspiring form especially when you look at where she has drawn. Having said that she has worked well on the grass since and though a little on the small side could be better than what we have seen so far.
12 Kashatreya Party Zoeller VillGomez H 118
The car park goes to this speedy filly so I would expect her to fly the gate and go for the front. There will be plenty of competition early on but if she can win the early race and get across, she did show enough in her maiden win that she could hold them off. Her sire has a few good sorts in his lists, Good Memories being his bets offspring and if this filly has a smidgen of that ones ability she will go close.
SUMMARY
Of course, it is an almost impossible task to pick the winner of races like this but there are three I like and they have as good a chance as any. I think Decima Change could run into the top three along with Poor Truth but I would be watching Grand And Lucky and Parisienne Of Note to be in there too.
