Royal Palm Juvenile ($125.00 Purse)
GP- For Two Year Olds
Five Furlongs on the Turf
May 9, 2026
With the gate full for the Royal Palm Juvenile, trainers were hoping to claim an early stake win for one of their two-year-olds. History does show that this race is not really an indicator for future successes for most that participate, but it’s still a nice opportunity early in their careers. Races like this are always unpredictable, however, three of the top four finishers in this race were amongst our top four finishers, so we almost nailed it. That includes the race winner, Luka Mafia, who was our third choice. His win gives Night Rider Stables his second win in the race and the first for jockey M J Husbands. Congratulations to them! The winning race time was :57.06, ranking second of the three editions of the race. Let’s take a look at it:
(1/4 Mile- :22.53)- Heading to the front will be Higher Advantage, for Serenity Stables, while on the outside, but he will be forced to enter the turn while five wide. In the second lane and within a length is our eventual winner from Night Rider Stables, Luka Mafia. Vinny Rocks, in his third career start for The Sidley Stud, runs between these two, as does the Mb Stables- trained Showman. Sim Racer, the slight post time favorite is fifth while remaining on the rail for Blazin D. His stablemate, Purple Punch, stalks the pace, as does both The Verdict (Threshold) and Lemon Crush (Red Fox Farms). There is not much separating these eight horses entering the turn. Next in line is Skynard (Royalty Stables), who’s a length ahead of Blockbuster Movie (Greyhound) and Gasly (Avenue Z). Super Grusome (TwinTowersRacing) is both at the back and takes a wide run into the turn while back there.
(Top Of Stretch, 1.5F To Go)- Not much changes for the first half of the turn, but entering the stretch, Luka Mafia emerges with the race lead, though this is more a product of Higher Advantage beginning to tire from the outside trip. He’s still second, a neck in front of both Vinny Rocks and Sim Racer, who run evenly. Showman’s in a good position on the track with this lead group, while Purple Punch follows in the path right behind Luka Mafia. Further back, The Verdict swings wide to make a run in the stretch. Lemon Crush loses some ground, while Skynard is a length ahead of the others.
(Finish- :57.06)- Early in the stretch, Luka Mafia looked particularly strong and is able to pull a full length ahead of those that had been closest to him. Approaching the wire, it seemed to safely in the bag, as only Sim Racer was nearby, and didn’t seem to be making progress. However, Night Rider Stables would have to sweat out the finish a little bit, as The Verdict was coming on strong and at the same time, his horse was beginning to tire. Fortunately for him, the wire came up just in time, as his horse survives, winning by a neck over The Verdict, who got the nod in the photo with Sim Racer. It’s a length Purple Punch in fourth. The rest of the order will read Skynard, Showman, Gasly, Super Grusome, Vinny Rocks, Blockbuster Movie, Higher Advantage, and Lemon Crush.
About The Winner- Luka Mafia, trained by Night Rider Stables and ridden to victory by M J Husbands, is a two-year-old colt by The Godfather and is out of Pinnacle Reject. He was bred in New Jersey by Night Rider Stables as a first quarter two-year-old. Congratulations to the connections! He’s 2-for-2 in his career with earnings of $129.00.
