Shoemaker Mile G1 1 Mile on Turf
Purse $300.00 For Three Year Olds And Upward.
Santa Anita Park Arcadia, Ca
Seven Is Lucky from Mb Stables is clearly the class of the field and the one to hold off late in the Grade 1 Shoemaker Mile on the Memorial Day Holiday racing card Monday at Santa Anita Park. Memorial Day (originally known as Decoration Day) is a federal holiday in the United States for honoring and mourning the military personnel who had died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Thank you, to those that have served.
With six out of his last seven efforts hitting the century mark, numbers wise, there is no particular reason to think that this is not his race to lose when opening the form of Seven Is Lucky. However, this is a horse race, so let’s look at some of the storylines behind him. Sioux Arrival from High Voltage can be a handful and when he decides not to throw down, he can really be best described as an in-and-outer-deluxe. However, when he does decide to throw down, he can be tough. Two sprints since a pop-and-stop effort in The Pegasus World Cup Turf should have him primed for a formidable showing on this layout. Seven of his eight wins have been when negotiating two turns. Penal Hockey Party from Maxmillion Farm ran a monster effort in The Whittingham Stakes to just miss in his latest effort. It’s been eons since he won going a flat mile, all the way back to the day after Christmas in December of 2022. However, he also just missed in The Breeder’s Cup Mile and has had several big efforts in previous years. Guessing he will take back and make one bold move into and around the far turn. Three bullets showing adds to the appeal. Brit Style from Lemax Farms has enjoyed turning five and getting back to a distance of ground, as evidenced by looking for his fourth straight flat mile victory on the Holiday Monday. Drawn perfectly, he should carve out the catbird seat right off the speed. Since he won the Breeder’s Cup Turf Sprint, one has to ask how good can he be if he actually prefers routing, as his record suggests? Food for major thought.
Of The Rest:
Extravagant from Bigchief Stables ran a banger in The American Stakes on this layout last month. He looks to be an improving four-year-old and his best numbers play ball here. This will be a rugged test, however.
The Mad King from John Henry has been a peach of a claim. Taken for a mere $25.00, the eight-year-old gelding has stepped right back into the pay side of the game to run second for $23.00 allowance, then he won for optional claiming $40.00 and finally won again in $150.00 non-graded stakes. Hitting the trifecta in this spot would add to his great story.
Oh Brother from Threshold gets back to the surface of all ten of his lifetime wins Monday in hopes of restarting his once big engine. He was purchased privately for $80.00 after a dismal try in last year’s Breeder’s Cup. He faced fourteen rivals in two subsequent starts since, both on dirt, where he beat 3 of them in total. To say a form reversal is needed would be accurate and something the connections are surely praying for as the accountants close in.
