Memorial Day Sprint – Race Preview
LS • 6f • Dirt • Fillies & Mares 3yo+ • Purse $100.00 (+ TX‑bred bonuses) Weight: 3yo 116 • Older 122 • Penalties for recent stakes wins apply
A compact but fascinating field of seven fillies and mares lines up for this holiday sprint, mixing in‑form three‑year‑olds with seasoned older sprinters who know how to win. Pace looks honest without being suicidal, and the LS surface has been playing fair enough that trip and tactical positioning may decide it.
Below is a horse‑by‑horse analysis.
1 – June Taylor Dancer (Martyparty) – 3yo – 116 lbs
A rapidly improving homebred who has done little wrong in 2026, winning two of three and finishing second in the other. Her CT form is rock‑solid, and she’s shown she can sit handy and finish strongly. The recent LS work — :48, best of the morning — screams readiness. The question is class: she’s stepping out of allowance company into a proper stakes test, but her figures (90, 88, 91) say she belongs. With the weight break and her tactical speed, she’s a major player.
2 – Ceilidh Dancer (SamIam) – 4yo – 122 lbs
A classy mare with a strong résumé and a turf‑leaning profile, though she’s run well on dirt when placed right. Her 2026 return has been sharp: a turf win at TUP and a good third at SA. Her dirt sprint form from late 2025 (93, 97, 95) fits very well here. The DMR works are blazing — :58, :58.1, :58.2 — suggesting she’s sitting on a big one. If she handles LS dirt as well as she handles California surfaces, she’s dangerous.
3 – Scenic Route (Royalty Stables) – 4yo – 122 lbs
A mare who has blossomed this season, winning two and placing in all four starts. Her CD second last out in the Roxela (96 fig) is arguably the best single piece of form in the field. She’s versatile, finishes strongly, and her works at CD and KEE have been consistently sharp. The only knock is that she sometimes leaves herself with a bit to do, but at 6f she’s shown she can stay close enough. A big chance.
4 – Golden Snitch (Avenue Z) – 5yo – 122 lbs
A hard‑trying mare who has spent most of her career grinding in allowance company. She finally broke through last out at FON with a determined win. Her sprint figures (90–92 range) put her in the conversation, but she tends to break a touch slowly and needs things to fall her way. The AQU works are good, but she’ll need a career‑best to win this. More of a minor‑award type.
5 – Gerri G (Luz International) – 8yo – 124 lbs
The veteran of the field and the classiest mare by résumé: 16 wins, nearly $800k earned, and still firing at eight years old. She’s been superb in Texas‑bred company this year, winning two and finishing second in another. Her early speed and consistency make her a threat every time she shows up. The only concern is the +2 lb penalty and whether she can still match the raw speed of the younger fillies at open stakes level. Still, you underestimate her at your peril.
6 – Extra Red (The Sidley Stud) – 3yo – 116 lbs
A lightly raced filly with upside. Her WO second in the slop (94 fig) and her BTP win (92 fig) show she’s got real talent. She’s been tried at a mile and beyond, but her best work has come sprinting. The PRX works are strong, and she gets in light. The question is whether she’s ready for open stakes company at this stage. She’s improving, but she may need another step forward to win this.
7 – Sunsweet Star (Wood Racing Stable) – 6yo – 122 lbs
A mare who always shows up and runs her race. Her 2026 form is sneaky good: two strong thirds with figures of 96 and 95. She’s been knocking on the door in allowance and listed company for a long time. Her AQU works — :58 flat — are elite. She’ll sit just off the pace and grind home. She’s not flashy, but she’s reliable and could easily hit the frame again.
