Aime La Nature Dominates The Just A Game

The Just A Game – GI
$500.00 – For Fillies And Mares Four Years Old And Upward
1 Mile – Inner Turf
Saratoga – June 6, 2026

The race was billed as a battle of turf queens, at least by me, but that did not materialize thanks to the track coming up good and Painville scratching leaving us with a field of five and Beach Towel the heavy even money favorite and expected winner. No one told Aime La Nature though and she made the race her own from start to finish in a very impressive win.

Winner: Aime La Nature (Our Athletes/J.R. Velasquez) Our Dark Knight/Roo (The Rook) She found herself on the rail with the scratch of Painville and she made good use of it going out to the lead challenged by Reorganize to her outside. She began to inch away from that rival after the first half mile while favorite Beach Towel was lurking in a dangerous stalking position two lengths behind. She hit the top of the stretch with that same advantage as Beach Towel tried to mount a rival. Opened up and was never seriously challenged and crossed the wire under wraps clearly the best on the day.

Second: Beach Towel (Winning Link Stables/B. Curtis) Livinonthebeach/Z Diplomat (Z One Chance) She settled into a perfect stalking position behind the two early pacesetters. Watching the race you fully expected her to benefit from those two battling early and her mounting a winning stretch run as the chief beneficiary of her catbird seat positioning but although she caught the tiring Reorganize at the top of the stretch she could never find the gear needed to seriously threaten the winner. No disgrace but second best.

Third: Reorganize (Czech Out Farms/T. Gaffalione) Dial It In/No Order In Chaos (Knowledge Greek) Went out early and challenged the pace but could not match strides with the winner beyond the first half mile. Tried to hang with a rallying Beach Towel but that duel did not last very long with Beach Towel drawing away to be a clear second while Reorganize was comfortable in third at the wire with the two trailers well behind.

Fourth (DH): Neon Sara (TwinTowersRacing/S.X. Bridgmohan) Neon Wolf/Paraparaumu Beach (Grandeur) Was in a virtual private match race the entire race with fellow straggler Corsica. Those two were head and head throughout with Corsica gaining a brief advantage late in the stretch but Neon Sara showed some grit to come back and gain the dead heat.

Fourth (DH): Corsica (Glorify Stables/J. Lezcano) Candy Quest/Rosedici (Di Medici) As noted above, she was head and head with Neon Sara the entire trip. Gained a dead heat for the final check with everyone in the small field getting a prize.

Preview Pick: Beach Towel – second best.

Aime La Nature came into the race with a G3 win to her credit but leaves it having notched the first G1 victory of her career and, for what it’s worth, ran the fastest of the three Just A Game’s run at Saratoga. This was the third win in this race for jockey J.R. Velasquez and it was the second win for Our Athletes who had previously won this race in 2020 with the legendary La Terrifiant. Aime La Nature has now won eight races in twenty starts and her career earnings now stand at $889.50.
