NY Stallion Stakes – Bid
Purse $150.000 – For Three Year Olds Foaled In NY
6 Furlongs – Turf
Aqueduct – June 20, 2026
First time running against state-breds and a perfect trip was all Ginger Beer needed to take down the 20th running of the New York Stallion Stakes – Bid. The three-year-old son of Ginger Haggis successfully stretched out an extra furlong, while also adding a stakes win to his résumé. Ginger Beer increased his purse earnings to $150.25 and collected a fourth career victory. La Canada Racehorses gets his first win in the New York Stallion Stakes – Bid, along with jockey Ederik Robles in the irons. This gelding ran the six furlongs in 1:08.56, which was 0.07 seconds faster than last year’s clocking. With Belmont Park set to reopen at the end of 2026, this race will go back to its seven-furlong distance. Anyway, Ginger Beer still has some allowance conditions left, but don’t be surprised if this guy sees stakes company again. This New York-bred really stepped up nicely and took well to the added distance. Looking at his confirmation, he might be even better around two turns. Well done!
Winner: Ginger Beer – (La Canada Racehorses, E O. Robles) New instructions may have been used for this start because this gelding traveled a lot closer to the pace than usual. It took a little bit of time, but Ginger Beer got in front of the two horses to his inside to settle on the rail and save ground. He started to make his move passing the ⅜ pole with a clear running lane ahead. Jockey Ederik Robles was trying to get this guy to the lead at the top of the stretch, however Santino Corleone was very stubborn on the lead. Ginger Beer was cutting into the margin little by little and eventually took the lead inside the final furlong. This homebred was able to outkick everyone late to win by a head. Congratulations!
Second Place: Drummer Boy – (D J C Racing Stables, D. Davis) It’s clear that this son of Quality Road wants to sprint, especially after being the favorite in this race. He broke relatively sharp and sat three-wide down the backstretch. Drummer Boy got into a comfortable rhythm while stalking just a length off the pace. Jockey Dylan Davis looked to have started to ask this gelding at the 5/16 pole, however no ground was being made up. He ended up cutting down the lead by a quarter of a length at the top of the stretch, while having a clear running lane on the outside. Drummer Boy was continuing to close but wasn’t able to keep up with the winner late. Probably the winner if he wasn’t forced wide.
Third Place: Matthews – (Alydar Stables, K. Carmouche) Figured to be one of the early pacesetters, but stalked behind the speed. Jockey Kendrick Carmouche let Santino Corleone go out and set the early fractions and kept this gelding about a length behind in third. Matthews raced handily two-wide down the backside before moving closer at the ⅜ pole. He began to breathe down the neck of the leader, while also trying to find some racing room. The quarter pole was a bit tricky as Kendrick was boxed in and couldn’t get to the outside or the rail. Some racing room finally opened up just before the final furlong, but it was too late. Matthews still put together a good performance for only his sixth career start.
Fourth Place: Santino Corleone – (Happy Tuesday, F. Prat) For this being only his third race, the son of The Godfather ran great. He broke his maiden last time out in wire-to-wire fashion, and connections tried to do the same in here. Santino Corleone cleared the field within the first two furlongs and set early fractions of 22.77 and 45.69. This colt held a one-length advantage down the backstretch, but that lead went down to about three-quarters around the far turn. He continued to dig in, passing the quarter pole and into the stretch with determination. It was only until the final furlong that Santino Corleone gave up the lead to the eventual winner. This New York-bred definitely has a bright future ahead.
