Solar Skel Pays the Bookmakers in The Pea Patch

The Pea Patch

5 1/2 Furlongs Turf Stake Purse $175.00 Filly 3 Year Olds.

1st        Solar Skel         TwinTowersRacing      Juarez N                           1:02.67

A classic HRP result here with the outsider of the field who broke her maiden at lowly BTP earlier in the year battle best to make it a one for one strike rate in stakes races.  If anyone’s stable name is written next to a winner like this it is TwinTowersRacing who seems to be able to find big races with outsiders more than any other stable in the game. This home-bred filly has only been beaten once since switching to the turf back in February and whilst she hasn’t got an obvious turf conformation, she certainly seems to have turned a corner with the grass under her hooves. Time will tell whether this was a flash in the pan, but her works have been strong, and she is clearly improving so she may well step up again in the future.

2nd       Weerden           Royalty Stables            Graham J                         1:02.70

Another classic HRP run here as this horse stepped right back in trip from a mile and sixteenth to run exactly the same race over five and a half furlongs. Finding the speed, she battled on really bravely and was only worn down in the shadow of the post. The race was all about speed as they tend to be 90% of the time and she made a really good fist of trying to take advantage of that.

3rd        Solar Lady       Maxmillion Farm         Leparoux J R                  1:02.88

Looking at her recent form, you would put her in front of the other two nine times out of ten, but she slipped back into the pack today and as we all know coming from off the speed in sprints is entirely dependent on factors out of the player’s control. She finished off well enough for third but may need that sixth furlong to see her at her best.

4th        Ava Gardner    Big Jd Racing                 Bejarano R                      1:02.93

Stalked the speed in third for much of the race and pretty much stayed there until the end. A shade one paced today but the sort of position she was racing in rarely pays dividends if the leaders don’t stop, which of course is rare. A fair effort but probably just a bit flat today.
