The Pitcher Stakes – Grade II

1 1/16 Mile Dirt Stake Purse $500.00 Filly & Mare 3 Year Olds And Up.

1st        Starting Over         TwinTowersRacing      Velazquez J R                1:41.35

This wonderful old mare did it again, winning her fourth stakes race of the year. Forty-nine races, eighteen wins, $6,500.00 in prize money, this mare has never had the exposure of some of the better-known names, but she is certainly building a career that could put her into the hall of fame. Despite her advancing years she will go to the BC again this year looking to improve on her amazing record of two seconds and a third in the last three BC Distaffs, I hope this is her year. Traveling in mid pack today she had to run every yard to gain a neck win in a race that never had a lot of speed in it.           

2nd       Gutter Black              Mo Mentum Farm       Bridgmohan S X           1:41.40

Ran a great race to be a close second but just couldn’t shake off Starting Over and went down fighting by a neck. She is a tough and consistent sort who ran her race out today and lost nothing in defeat.  

3rd        Delilahs Den          Simmer Down Stable               Ortiz J L              1:41.77

She was a deep closer last time when she won but today with a slower pace was much closer early on only to whack away at the one pace. That seems to be the pattern with these pace sensitive sorts but in the end, she probably ran her best race to get third.         

4th        Boardwalk Authority Winning Link Stables               Rodriguez A R   1:41.80

Looked in good shape when she went to the front of a slowish pace but found disappointingly little when put under pressure.
