The Grade 3 ONT Colleen Stakes provides a great opportunity for three year old turf fillies to run for a nice purse of $150.00, and it runs for the 17th time north of the border at WO. The purse has not changed much over the years, also debuting for $150.00, and only a few times in its history did it run for a slightly lower amount while never being higher than that. In 2025, Date Knight got the win in this race, doing so for Our Athletes. That filly is still active, but has not picked up another stake win since that race, and only one other win in overnights. Other past winners of the race include Broomsticks Copy and Maggie Greene, who would each go on to win the BC Fillies and Mares Turf later in their careers. We’ll have a field of eight this year, so let’s take a look at them!

1- Vast (TwinTowersRacing, ridden by D Moran)- This Van Gogh filly is just beginning to get her career rolling. Took four races to break her maiden, which ultimately came at LS in late April, and she would follow that up with a narrow allowance win at PRX. That would motivate her trainer to give her a significant test last month in the $275.00 Tepin, and she represented herself well, coming from way off the pace, making up a ton of ground in the stretch to get up for third. Looking to build off of that even more here, and should have all other jockeys peeking over their shoulder for her in the stretch.

2- Patronize (D J C Racing Stables, ridden by S Civaci)- A strong two year old season saw her come close to pulling out wins in both the Grade 1 Natalma and the Grade 2 Jessamine, and those efforts would secure her spot in the BC Juvenile Fillies Turf. After running fourth there, she established herself as a name to watch this year, but was a little slow to get rolling. She may have hit her turning point, with a win two back in an allowance at PRX leading to a second place effort in the Grade 2 Wonder Again at SAR in early June.

3- Savvy Instinct (Mb Stables, ridden by L Salles)- Last time out, Savvy Instinct with win the $275.00, knocking off three of her rivals that she sees again today in the process. That victory was her third in six starts, and she has never failed to hit the board in her career. Two of her non-wins were solid efforts at CD in graded races (Grade 2 Edgewood and the Grade 3 Regret), which led to that Tepin win, also at CD. Now, the ON-bred leaves that track to run close to home and she worked nicely at PRX in anticipation of this last week. She’s another strong one in Mb’s arsenal and looks promising in this field.

4- Rowena (Williams9, ridden by E J Wilson)- The trainer enjoyed a great two year old season out of this filly, as she won over $800.00 on the year, highlighted by the $1,000.00 KD Juvenile Fillies. Following that, she would run in the BC Juvenile Fillies Turf, and placed third. She would give off to a good start this year as well by winning the $150.00 Ginger Brew at GP in January, but after that, it’s been a struggle in her last four, not earning another cent. While Williams9 hopes this race gets her back to her old form, I will be looking elsewhere.

5- A Bod For Sin (La Canada Racehorses, ridden by S Chemetz)- This filly typically puts out a good effort each time, placing somewhere in the top four in all but one of her eleven starts. Four of them are wins, three in overnights but the last one coming in the $75.00 Cincinnattian at BTP last month. Her graded efforts are not among her best starts, and while she was fourth two back in the Grade 3 Honeymoon Stakes, she was beaten by three. I see this race being more like that one, so A Bod For Sin will need to be better. I think she can, though.

6- Jump Into Action (Diablo Diablo, ridden by Su Singh)- Qualified for the BC Juvenile Fillies Turf last fall, with her win in the Grade 3 Surfer Girl earlier in that month essentially punching her ticket for the race. Jump Into Action placed fifth in the BC, and looked strong at the beginning of the year. In February, she won the Grade 3 Herecomesthebride Stakes at GP, then ran second in the Grade 2 Appalachian five weeks later. Unfortunately, she hit a wall in her next two starts and really needs a rebound race right here.

7- Viscancia (Nakamura Stables, ridden by S Jones)- Making her graded debut here in the ONT Colleen Stakes in what will be her eleventh start. She’s hit the board eight times during that time, with three wins, but she did nearly spend her entire two year old campaign at BTP and TUP. The trainer moved her up at the start of the year to run in ungraded stakes, and she has been second twice. Ran second to Savvy Instinct to starts ago at the $100.00 Providencia Stakes, and I’d feel better about her if that was her last start. But her dud in the optional claimer two months ago is a red flag.

8- Perception Plus (Spb Racing, ridden by P Moran)- Last to load into the gate is another horse making her graded debut. Perception Plus has made 13 starts thus far, which is the highest for anyone in the field, with her entire two year old season running in overnights. She was a regular at PRX, or in PA-bred races at PEN and won three times on the year. That moved her into ungraded competition as a three year old, and while she started slow, she would gradually get better. That would culminate in a win at the $200.00 OB Distaff at LS in late May. Had a shot in the Tepin last time out, but was passed late, placing fourth. Like that race, she starts from the outside again.
