The ELP Debutante will be run on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at Ellis Park as Race #11, a seven-furlong dirt stake for two-year-old fillies carrying a purse of $250.000. The race has produced several notable winners, including Rock Steady for Rampage Stable in 2025, Center Of Gravity for Panionios Racing in 2024, and Be Patient for Mb Stables in 2022. This year’s field is deep with lightly raced maiden winners, and the added distance places added importance on which filly can conserve speed through seven furlongs.
1. Seven Of Spades — Waldo / Juarez A J Jr — Odds: 8/1
Seven Of Spades showed meaningful improvement in her second start, rallying from seventh to take command at the third call before winning a Lone Star maiden by three lengths. Her latest victory came at 5 1/2 furlongs, and she now stretches to seven furlongs after finishing strongly. She has a legitimate chance if that progression continues, although she is meeting a much deeper field than she faced in her maiden victory.
2. Nite Wish — D J C Racing Stables / Gallardo A A — Odds: 4/1
Nite Wish owns one of the strongest recent races in the field, finishing second in a six-furlong Saratoga allowance after advancing from seventh to second. She previously won her debut at 4 1/2 furlongs by two lengths and has finished first or second in both starts. Her ability to pass horses and remain competitive against allowance company makes her a leading contender as the distance increases.
3. Helly Eagan — Jerry Garcia Racing / Bejarano R — Odds: 12/1
Helly Eagan improved sharply from her debut to win a Churchill maiden at 5 1/2 furlongs. She raced fifth through the opening stages, moved to fourth, and got up narrowly at the finish. That closing pattern may suit the seven-furlong distance, but she will need another forward move against fillies with stronger established form.
4. Empire State Lady — Nakamura Stables / Centeno D E — Odds: 7/1
Empire State Lady has finished first or second in both starts. She improved from a runner-up debut at Lone Star to win a Monmouth maiden at five furlongs after racing third through the opening calls. Her recent training includes a seven-furlong work at Ellis Park, giving her preparation directly aligned with this assignment. She is a credible win candidate if she handles the class rise.
5. Excellent Meeting — Royalty Stables / Machado L — Odds: 15/1
Excellent Meeting won her debut at Keeneland after moving from sixth to second before taking the lead, but she did not reproduce that finish in the Debutante at Churchill. She remained near the rear throughout that six-furlong stake and finished tenth. Her maiden victory showed talent, but she must rebound substantially to win this race.
6. Kikis Trouble — The Sidley Stud / Asmussen E — Odds: 20/1
Kikis Trouble won a statebred maiden at SunRay Park before finishing seventh in the My Dear Stakes at Woodbine. She was tenth through the early stages of that race and made only modest progress. Her prior win gives her some foundation, but the seven-furlong distance and stronger competition present a demanding test.
7. Shards Of Bo — Bigchief Stables / Espinoza V — Odds: 18/1
Shards Of Bo won her Keeneland debut after showing early speed, but her next start in the Churchill Debutante was a difficult one. She raced close to the pace early before fading to eleventh. She has since recorded a seven-furlong work at Del Mar, but she will need to sustain her speed much more effectively to contend here.
8. Out Love Victor — Williams9 / Esquivel E — Odds: 14/1
Out Love Victor won a five-furlong maiden at Lone Star by one length before finishing fifth in the Schuylerville at Saratoga. She raced second through the first three calls in that stakes appearance before weakening late. She has enough speed to be involved early, but seven furlongs may test her ability to finish.
9. Doubtville Gal — TwinTowersRacing / Rispoli U — Odds: 10/1
Doubtville Gal won a five-furlong Churchill maiden after advancing from seventh to take the lead. In her next start, she raced at the rear of the Churchill Debutante before improving to sixth. The move from twelfth to sixth showed some late progress, and the extra furlong may help, but she still needs to close the gap on the leading contenders.
10. Teraset — Winning Link Stables / Corrales G — Odds: 6/1
Teraset has improved through three starts and enters after winning a six-furlong Saratoga maiden. She raced fourth early, moved into second, and finished a half-length in front. She was also second and third in her first two appearances, giving her a consistent 3-1-1-1 record. Her improving pattern and experience at six furlongs make her one of the stronger candidates to handle seven.
11. Queen Of Vegas — Threshold / Fresu A — Odds: 9/1
Queen Of Vegas has won two consecutive five-furlong races after finishing third in her debut. She has shown tactical speed, taking control by the second call in both victories. Her consistency is a positive, but she has not yet raced beyond five furlongs or faced competition at this level. She remains dangerous if allowed to settle near the lead.
12. Taxation Is Theft — TwinTowersRacing / Hernandez R M — Odds: 5/1
Taxation Is Theft has finished in the top three in all three starts and comes in after winning a five-furlong Woodbine maiden. She raced second throughout before prevailing by a nose and had previously finished second and third in competitive maiden races. Her consistency, tactical speed, and steady progression give her a strong chance, although the seven-furlong distance is a new challenge.
Pace Structure & Race Outlook
Queen Of Vegas, Out Love Victor, Shards Of Bo, Taxation Is Theft, and possibly Excellent Meeting have displayed enough early speed to become involved near the front. Queen Of Vegas has taken control early in her last two victories, while Out Love Victor and Shards Of Bo have both shown the ability to race prominently.
Teraset, Empire State Lady, and Taxation Is Theft should be able to secure positions just behind the initial pace. Nite Wish, Seven Of Spades, Helly Eagan, and Doubtville Gal have shown the ability to advance from farther back, which could become important if the early leaders place sustained pressure on one another.
The seven-furlong distance may favor a filly capable of settling before producing a sustained move rather than one dependent entirely on early speed.
Projected Winner
Top Selection: Nite Wish
Nite Wish gets the call based on her runner-up finish against Saratoga allowance company, her ability to make up ground, and her perfect record of finishing first or second. Teraset is the main danger with an improving three-race pattern and a recent six-furlong victory. Taxation Is Theft brings consistent tactical form, while Empire State Lady is a strong contender with two quality efforts and preparation geared toward the distance. Seven Of Spades is the live longshot after her decisive maiden victory.
