We may be hearing the name Reign Supreme for quite some time, as the three year old gelding scored his fifth win in nine starts on Saturday, coming in the Grade 1 SAR Derby. It’s his third graded win in four starts, and second Grade 1. For his career, he is perfect in hitting the board once he got that debut race out of the way. He was our pick to win, and the pick of many other people, grabbing 37.3% of the selections in the pick ‘em to be the post time favorite. Reign Supreme would not let any of them down, winning by a length. The win is the fifth in the SAR Derby for Mb Stables, and P Lopez wins the race for the first time. Congratulations to them! The time of the race was 1:51.60, the second quickest in the history of the race.

(½ Mile- :47.35)- Wolf Lord goes out to the lead for John Henry, and leads the field down the frontstretch and around the turn. After a half mile, he has the lead by a length. Stalking the pace patiently is our eventual winner from Mb Stables, Reign Supreme, who rides the rail while having stablemate Destined Charge running to his outside. Looking to join them while running three wide is Luz International’s Kuykendahl, and Sausage Wiz is just a length behind Reign Supreme for Night Rider Stables. It’s a length and a half to Castiglione (Royalty Stables) and two to three lengths to Term Limits (TwinTowersRacing).

(3/4 Mile- 1:10.95)- Down the backstretch, Wolf Lord will maintain his lead of a length. They are three wide right behind him as, from inside to outside, Reign Supreme, Destined Charge, and Kuykendahl have little separating them. Sausage Wiz is still running right behind them. Castiglione has not pushed forward yet, and Term Limits drops further behind the rest of the field.

(Top of Stretch, 1.7F To Go)- As soon as the run around the turn began, the trio of horses that had been stalking Wolf Load will move down a lane to try and pass. At first, it looked like Kuykendahl would be the first to get by, but Reign Supreme would have different ideas, responding with a stronger push as he pulls a length ahead of both Kuykendahl and Destined Charge while passing Wolf Lord in the process. Reign Supreme is looking good now in the stretch. Sausage Wiz continues to run a length behind horses like Destined Charge, but he has not made a move yet. Castiglione is getting closer to the rest of the field. Term Limits is having a tough go of it.

(Finish- 1:51.60)- Reign Supreme will live up to her name in the stretch, as no one is able to get closer to him, certainly showing everyone that he is a horse that simply knows how to win. On the outside, Kuykendahl is able to hang on for the second spot while drifting during the stretch. Sausage Wiz passes a couple late to get up for third while Wolf Lord holds off Castiglione for the fourth place check. Destined Charge really fatigued late, and beats only Term Limits.

About The Winner- Reign Supreme, trained by Mb Stables and ridden to victory by P Lopez, is a three year old gelding by People Pleaser and is out Queen Supreme. He was bred in Florida by Mb Stables as a third quarter two year old, and they have been together throughout. Congratulations to the connections! The win is his fifth in nine starts, his fourth stake win and third graded win. His career earnings are now $1,618.430.
