Pure Winner delivered a determined performance in the Jones Stakes, staying in close pursuit of the leader throughout before getting up at the finish to score by a head. Sent off at a mild 7-1, the 5-year-old gelding earned the $200.000 one-mile dirt stake for Serenity Stables, with Corrales G aboard, stopping the clock in 1:34.60.

The Jones Stakes brought together seven older runners over one mile on a fast ELP dirt surface, and the contest developed into a sustained battle between Inoue and Pure Winner.

Inoue established command immediately and remained the leader through every recorded call. Pure Winner tracked him in second through the opening six furlongs and never allowed the favorite to establish a decisive advantage. Behind that pair, the complexion of the chase changed several times, with Magnum Opus eventually emerging from the second flight.

The leaders reached the opening quarter in :23, the half-mile in :46.2, and six furlongs in 1:10.2. Inoue still had the advantage entering the final portion of the race, but Pure Winner continued to apply pressure. The two remained together through the finish, where Pure Winner finally edged ahead to complete the mile in 1:34.60.

The victory was especially noteworthy considering Pure Winner had most recently finished sixth in the Suburban G2 at 1¼ miles. Cutting back to a mile and dropping from graded stakes company, he returned to the winner’s circle for his third victory of 2026.

Half-mile — :46.2: Inoue continued to dictate the race with Pure Winner maintaining second. Finding Nemo made the most significant early positional advance, moving from sixth into third. Bahamut slipped from third to fourth, Magnum Opus moved back to fifth, Ilium was sixth, and Patrol remained seventh.

Six furlongs — 1:10.2: Inoue was still in front, but Pure Winner remained his closest pursuer. Magnum Opus produced a notable advance from fifth to third. Finding Nemo moved from third to fourth, Bahamut dropped another position to fifth, while Ilium and Patrol continued sixth and seventh.

Stretch and finish — 1:34.3: Pure Winner finally overhauled Inoue in the concluding stages. Inoue fought on and remained with the winner all the way to the wire. Magnum Opus sustained his mid-race advance well enough to take third, while Patrol produced the strongest late positional move from the rear, advancing from seventh to fourth. Ilium finished fifth after racing in the middle-to-rear portion throughout. Finding Nemo, who had advanced sharply during the first half-mile, lost ground late and finished sixth. Bahamut, third early, steadily retreated through the field and finished seventh.
