DMR Handicap features Boss Spearman which has been of recent reinventing himself, this time as a turf router against a field of experienced and non. Top competition comes from Gold Vault with a lot of experience and Scorched with non and Broomstick Hunting which has won his only two turf marathons.

Not a lot of graded stakes or marathon experience for Scorched, but some key wins that will keep him trying and a deep pockets stable that can help him along. Way back in ’24 when he scored his maiden win, he followed that up with a victory in the $100.00 Allison Derby at SUN. That win set a precedent that he had trouble maintaining and there followed six graded and large stakes losses before finally running third in the Grade III Station at KEE. A couple of allowance races wins later, another significant milestone; he won a turf marathon in the $225.00 Chorleywood Stakes at CD. Now he has another precedent to chase. Let’s hope he doesn’t have wait as long for another victory.
2 Fourth Estate High Voltage 101
Fourth Estate got knocked around in the three-year-old marathon races and the BC Turf and that’s about all the marathon experience he has. He comes here off seven out of the money performances in a row.
3 Broomstick Hunting Threshold 93
Threshold decided to try struggling Broomstick Hunting in a marathon maiden at BTP and he won. So, he found a starter marathon and the gelding went wire-to-wire to win at 1 3/8 miles. Broomstick Hunting was already struggling when Stu claimed him from Arindel for $7.50. He had four races without a win, and his trainer had dropped him in hopes of a win. Soon enough, Stu realized he had bought the on-going struggle. After another thee losses, he found a marathon turf maiden and Broomstick Hunting won it in a dead heat and then followed with yet another turf marathon win. Now he is undefeated in turf marathons and in his first stakes race of any kind.
4 Gold Vault The Sidley Stud 100
After winning the Grade II Sycamore at KEE, Gold Vault was given four months off. When he returned to SA, he seemed a little rusty, losing two Grade III starts, but when he headed over to CD, he did what he was supposed to do the race before and won The Grade III Louisville. Unfortunately, in his next two races at SAR he seemed disinterested and ran races very similar to his SA races. It’s not like him though, and I expect him to snap out of it right now.
5 Boss Spearman John Henry 100
Since his tough go in the BC Classic, Boss Spearman has been a virtual ATM machine. His race following the Classic was the Grade II Pincay Stakes at SA at 1 1/16 mile on dirt and ran a lively deep close second. Now, Boss Spearman had ln his entire life up to then been a stone-cold dirt horse. What happened next was The Grade II Diarmida at 1 3/8 miles on turf and he ran third, So, after 18 dirt races at no longer than 1 3/16 miles, we saw the birth of a turf marathon runner. Next race was The Grade III Pan American at 1 1/2 miles on turf which he won. Next, he ran third in back-to-back Grade II turf marathons at SAR and here we are at another big turf marathon, and I think he wins this one. He’s discovering this talent and he’s only four years old. This should be fun.
6 Mistborn Mb Stables 101
Mistborn entered his first graded stakes race last out and was second, beaten only a neck in the Grade II Connaught Cup Stakes at WO. So, here he is as part of Mb Stables’ three pack.
7 Brit Style Lemax Farms 100
Brit Style has been in excellent form this year starting with a three-win streak that culminated with a victory in the $350.00 Opening Verse at CD. After running fourth, beaten only half a length in the Grade I Shoemaker Mile, he ran second in both the Grade II Wise Dan and the Grade II Read Stakes. What I like about his preparation is that he is being brought along with solid route progression.
8 Port Gibson The Sidley Stud 94
Seven-year-old Port Gibson suffers from “Well, I only Paid” and as a result, has had seven owners and cost his current owner only $4.00. Until The Sidley Stud purchased him Port Gibson was strictly a dirt sprinter. The Sidley Stud put an end to that and immediately got a deep closer third and his first triple digit SRF in the $100.00 Bradley Stakes at FG, then second in the Grade III San Marcos Stakes at SA. After that he was beaten favourite in The $110.00 Turf Classic at TAM but made amends with a third in the Gade II Whittingham Stakes at SA and a win in the $100.00 Gendelman Memorial Stakes. Now after a couple of graded losses, his trainer has decided to see how he can do in a turf route.
9 Convincing Diablo Diablo 99
Convincing had some minor success in graded stakes races back in ’23 and ’24, but it’s been a long graded time. Race before last, though, he finished fourth, beaten only a length in his first turf marathon, the $225.00 Chorleywood Stakes. So, some hope.
10 Solar Glory Nakamura Stables 99
Solar Glory has never raced in a graded stakes race but has raced in and won a marathon, a 1 3/8 mile starter allowance at TAM in March. He’s in excellent form, coming here off two wins and a second.
11 Exuberant Mb Stables 99
Exuberant may be here as a rabbit for the Mb Stables trio. His last out was a decent nose loss at a mile, and he can run fast if Dan wants him to, as he showed in the Grade III BEL Turf Sprint which went by in 1:074.
