DMR Handicap – Grade III
1 3/8 Miles Turf Graded Stake Purse $300.00 Three-Year-Olds And Upward. At DMR

1st      Mistborn                   Mb Stables                      11-1 HRP 6-1 SRF

After running second in his graded stakes debut in the Grade II Connaught Cup Stakes at WO Mistborn decided he liked the lofty heights of graded stakes racing and won the DMR Handicap. He did this in his usual way of laying just off the pace in the early going and moving at the stretch, this time he had the lead at the top of the lane and just cruised home to a one-length victory.

2nd      Convincing                  Diablo Diablo             16-1 HRP 10-1 SRF

In my preview, I made a half-hearted comment about Convincing having some hope in this race but then handed him 10-1 odds and placed him ninth in my handicap, but I was right, he had some hope and finished second. You look at his consistency and think, “Wow! Why isn’t this this lad in your top three?”, but it’s level of competition. Well, Convincing doesn’t know about level of competition, he just ran and stalked the leaders from sixth about three lengths back until the far turn where he began his steady advance that got hi within a length of the winner.             

3rd      Gold Vault                     The Sidley Stud                     8-1 HRP 5-2 SRF

After running up the track a couple of times, Gold Vault was given odds of nearly 9-1. I decided he was just a little distracted and would snap out of it. Well, third in the DMR Handicap seems like SNAP! I think at five years old; he should be allowed to be Tootle the Train now and then and jump the tracks to smell the buttercups, He sure looked back coming from deep eight even as they entered the stretch, he flew down the lane to finish third.

4th      Exuberant         Mb Stables           10-1 HRP 50-1 SRF

Well, oops. I suggested that Exuberant may be here as a rabbit for the Mb Stables. I could not have been further off; he came out of the gate twelve lengths behind in the first quarter and stayed last until the turn, then down the lane he blasted making up all but two lengths to finish  fourth.
