The last time this four year old won was nearly a year ago in the Raven Run over this trip. That day she sat off the speed in mid pack and picked the leaders off late but today she went to the lead and defied them all the way home. It is once again a testament to the trainer that this filly decides to get her first win of the year in a BC qualifier and for the first time in her career turns into a front runner. Her ability has never been in doubt but she has looked a little off colour this year but I think we can definitely put that down to the old four year old curse that sees good three year olds flatten out for a time at four.
2nd Thanks Mucho Mo Mentum Farm Lezcano J 1:21.86 99
I thought the wide gate speed push would be enough to see this one with all the natural speed lead them all the way just as the winner did. In the end the winner went a bit too quick, either by gaming button design or by the fluke of the race engine, and she had to settle into the stalk. She was taking ground all the way to the line but you don’t get by an Mb runner easily and she just came up short in the end.
3rd Save Ferris Martyparty Gallardo A A 1:22.05 98
Ran a cracker to be third keeping on well without really getting to the first two. This was a decent effort from a five year old who probably ran her best race for a couple of years.
4th (DH) Monarchy Mo Mentum Farm Bravo J 1:22.13 97
It is rather apt that the two fillies that would have been seen as superstars not so long ago ended up dead heating. Since winning her first seven races this filly has been off the boil for a while now and whilst she did well to get within a length she would’ve brushed this field aside not so long ago.
4th (DH) Santorini Mb Stables Rosario J 1:22.13 97
A superstar two year old her running style once again saw her come unstuck as she was selected to go back as her stable mate went forward. The pace was fast but just not fast enough for the grade one winner and she arrived with a wet sail when the race was all but over.
