The Sands Point – Grade III
1 1/8 Mile In Turf Graded Stake Purse $200.00 Fillies Three-Year-Olds. At BEL
The Sands Point is another of these very tight races for sophomore fillies. You can go up and down the list of these seven lasses and find something encouraging to say about each. I’m going with a slight longshot whose odds in my handicap are equal to the bottom horse in my handicap, Jurassic Wolf which discovered turf last, liked it and won. I’m betting she comes back winning. In second I like recent stakes winner Vesuvius Flare which has won half of her six races. And in third I place the probable favourite Z Facts which arrives here off a stakes win,
Here’s The Sands Point handicap:
Horse Owner Odds SRF
Jurassic Wolf TwinTowersRacing 6-1 91
Vesuvius Flare Aer Stables 3-1 84
Z Facts Big Jd Racing *3-1 94
Bedside D J C Racing Stables 5-1 91
Barbie Q Boss Big Jd Racing 4-1 94
Gold Lion Greyhound 6-1 84
Lupita La Canada Racehorses 6-1 92
1 Vesuvius Flare Aer Stables 84
Vesuvius Flare took three races to win but then reeled off three straight wins that culminated with a win in the $150.00 NY Stallion Series – Liberty. I think the Grade II Flower Bowl was a throw away… just one of those races that closers throw every once in a while, a bit too high in class too soon, muddy, a bit too far and so on. She still has won half her races and her works are sharp.
2 Barbie Q Boss Big Jd Racing 94
Barbie Q Boss comes off her fourth win in nine starts, an expensive State-Bred opt/claimer at BEL. She recently ran a close third in the $100.00 Monmouth County Stakes at 5 1/2 furlongs.
3 Gold Lion Greyhound 84
Gold Lion drops into this race after a disappointing performance in the Grade III Winter Memories at BEL. In fact, there’s the problem, she is very reliable until a stakes race comes along.
4 Jurassic Wolf TwinTowersRacing 91
Three races on dirt and Jurassic Wolf looked pretty ordinary. One race on turf and winner, winner, chicken dinner. I think she just announced a love for the turf, and she’s going to repeat, and that’s why I put her on top of a very tight race.
5 Bedside D J C Racing Stables 90
I like Bedside because she’s so tough and determined at any distance in any class. Here’s a horse that finished third beaten only a neck in a $100.00 stakes race and two races later found herself in s $6.25 claimer and two races after that back in a $150.00 stakes race. In her last four races, she has run second at five furlongs, won at seven furlongs and won at 1 1/16 miles. Just tough.
6 Lupita La Canada Racehorses 92
Even though she is at the bottom of my handicap, there is much to be said favorably about Lupita. She has finished first or second in four of her six starts. She picked up a fourth-place check in her first stakes race. Her earnings far exceed her bargain auction price of $11.00 to Night Mare Racing.
Z Facts has been the model of consistency bringing home a check in all eight of her races. Her most recent race was a victory in the $75.00 Miss Southern OH Stakes at BTP which followed a second in the $250.00 Pucker Up Stakes at ELP. She’s only won one other race, a maiden, but she has been so consistent and so close that she seems the probable favourite.
