Bessarabian Stakes – Grade III

7 Furlongs Dirt Stake Purse $175.00 Filly & Mare 3 Year Olds And Up.

1st        Lady Abbygael              Hammelot Farm          Moran P                   1:21.62

The best horses were drawn wide so it was just a matter of whether they could use the wide gate speed push and sure enough the race engine played its favorite song and speed won the day. This very progressive filly has been well placed to win six stakes races in a row culminating today in her first graded stakes race. She has bags of pace and plenty of heart and if this progress continues could become a BC Fillies and mares sprint contender next year.   This home-bred found a slot in my black book today with this comprehensive win.

2nd       Delilahs Den                 Simmer Down Stable Hernandez R M           1:22.01

Of the two wide draws, one went forward and one went back so it was pretty clear what the result would be and sure enough this consistent four year old came too late to catch the winner. Her running style has been a problem this year even though she has done quite well you get the feeling that she has better ability than results.

3rd        Flanders                          Robeth                              Salles L             1:22.22

Kept on for third but was a fair way off the first two and this result was just a pass mark. She took seven races to finally get a win though so her progress since has been pleasing and she may just be waiting for another year to hit her best.

4th        Balance That Budget                Rock Creek     Vanek H M              1:22.52

Tried to go with the speed early but this shorter trip saw her struggling and she could never really keep up. She plodded on for fourth but will need a longer trip to see her at her best.
