6 Furlongs Turf Stake Purse $175.00 Three-Year-Olds. At BEL
All four lifetime races for Star Studded had been routes, so what the heck is he doing in a six-furlong stakes race? Especially when his stakes record is not that hot… heck, his allowance record is not that good. Winning is what he is doing… at 41-1, the longest price on the board and proving that Spankys Barn’s purchase of this gelding from Riggins Racing for $40.00 was a very wise choice. The big son of Big John Stud and the second City Of Stars broke from the starting gate back in sixth and stayed there until the field was turning for home when he unleashed a powerful charge down the stretch to win by a half-length.
2nd Red Party T Boy Racing
After reeling off five wins in a row, Red Party apparently got in over his head in a couple of races, at least that’s what the odds said but in losing registered 96 and 100 SRF’s so 7-1 seems a bit long for this genuinely hot sprinter which dueled for the lead from the start, working his way into the lead and drawing out like he was on his way to glory only to be caught in the final strides.
3rd Yellowbrick Road D J C Racing Stables
After running routes mostly his entire life, and recently long routes, Yellowbrick Road is suddenly dropped into a six-furlong stakes race and turns in a very nice third-place performance coming from fifth steadily forward into third beaten only one length.
4th Steal Your Face Australia Racing
Lightly raced Steal Your Face was purchased by way of auction from Pennsville Farm for $15.01 after three races. He had won at first asking at lowly BTP and then ran third in a high-priced WO allowance race but failed next as the obvious favourite in a LAD allowance… so the auction. Australia Racing’s trainer followed the set path with a PRX run which got him a second. Then, having run all of his lifetime races at a mile or more, Steal Your Face was placed in a six-furlong stakes race where he showed a lot of run against the speedsters by taking the lead out of the gate and leading for a half before becoming a bit leg weary and fading to fourth.
