Scottish Shortbread wins more than she loses, so it’s no surprise to see her add this jewel to her crown, after all it’s  been two races since she won, and she’s not used to that; but still for all those wins, this is her first stakes win, she’s come close, she only lost by a quarter-length in the Grade III Bernardo Stakes; but this time she used her patented force the pace from second until taking the lead away in the stretch and coming home the winner.

I have to wonder if longshot Eilonwy deserved those long odds after coming within three-quarter lengths in the Grade II Honorable Miss Handicap, that’s grade 2 not 3… you meet much tougher competition at Grade II. Anyway, she showed off her current sharp form by laying fourth for a half then moving toward the leaders coming home but was unable to overtake the winner.

3rd      Black Regazze                    Nakamura Stables                

Throughout her career, speedster Black Regazze has suffered from the same fatal flaw as she displayed here: she takes the lead in wire-to-wire winning form but almost always forgets to save enough for the finish. Today, she was classic to herself as she led from the starting gate to the stretch but weakened to third down the lane.

Graded stakes winner of almost $380.00, Memphis Reins gave an even performance staying one length back from start to finish pacing in third for the first half then fourth around the far turn and home. After the race Memphis Reins was retired and bred to first season sire Bible Study.
