The Remsen – Grade II [KYD]
1 1/8 Mile Dirt Stake Purse $300.000 Open 2 Year Olds.
1st Niner Forty Niner, trained by John Henry
This colt had been largely disappointing since his second up maiden win but that didnt stop two stables shelling out over $200.000 for him. John Henry is his latest owner and to be honest before today he had continued to run lack lustre races. Today however there was a clear switch in tactics. Normally leading or on pace he has struggled at the end of his races but today ridden with restraint he finally lived up to his price tag. Running on strongly in the final furlong he was a most impressive one length winner and you have to think that with this new knowledge the sky is the limit for John Henry and this impressive two year old.
2nd Two Punch, trained by Mb Stables
considering this was hs first ever route this son of Pure Steel ran a cracker to be second. Stalking the pace he looked like the winner at the furlong pole but was out finished in the end. Considering he was working quicker than the winner over a mile you have to think that his stamina ran out at the end and for now atleast a mile seems his limit.
3rd Profound Approach, trained by Heavens Own
Taken back from his wode draw he finished like a train just a nose behind the runner up. Previously untested at this level he is clearly much better than the little races he has been contesting up to now.
4th Mr C, trained by D J C Racing Stables
Came from the furthest back of the first four finishers but had his chance at the furlong pole and did not quite finish it off. This looked like the run of a horse needing a break as he has been on the go since April but i wouldnt be writing him off after this effort and i think he may turn out to be a decent TC prospect.
