Small Field in Bay Ridge

The Bay Ridge ($100.000 Purse)

Just three trainers found the $100.000 Bay Ridge to be an appealing option to run in on Sunday, and they send a four horse field.  We have one in the field making their debut, and I even wonder if the horse was created on Thursday.  Based on that, we know that Maxmillion Farm has high hopes for his primary entry, Pippy Hype.  Let’s take a look at the field!

#1- Retaliator (Mb Stables, ridden by I Ortiz Jr)- This filly has become a regular on the NY-bred circuit, and is 3-for-4 while running with the statebred classification, and her last two such races have been stakes.  Back in August, she raced at beautiful Saratoga Race Course in the Union Avenue and was third in another statebred four horse field.  More recently, she went to BEL for the $150.000 Iroquois, and scored herself a win.  Those are sprints, however, and The Bay Ridge will be her first time going long.  Worked well at a mile about a month ago, and should be competitive based on that.

#2- Pippy Hype (Maxmillion Farm, ridden by L Saez)- Recently, this filly has been a part of horse selling park, with three private sales transactions and two races making up the last five lines of her past performances.  Maxmillion only acquired her last week for $45.000 from Downwind Stables, but no doubt the trainer likes what he sees as not only did he enter her here, but even placed a field filler in the race to make sure it would run.  Her last two starts have come at RP in ungraded stakes there, highlighted by a second place finish at the muddy RP Oaks.  It appears she will race with bute and lasix, like she did before being sold back and forth.  She can handle this field.

#3- Too Much Work (Maxmillion Farm, ridden by J Alvarado)- Makes her debut, and it appears as though the shown work is a virgin work, or else I can’t see how she’d be ready to run here.  If that is a virgin work, we may be hearing about her later in the SRF.  But for now, we’ll look at Max’s other entry.

#4- Chieri (D J C Racing Stables, ridden by A A Gallardo)- The trainer looks to win this race for the second time, having won the only prior running of this race in 2014 with a horse I am partial to named Clutch Situation.  Chieri comes into this race on a strong run of form with three wins in her last four starts, and she has never finished outside the top three in her nine race career.  That stat figures to be a given to continue.  Most recently, she is coming off a win in the $125.000 Staten Island, part of the NY Stallion Series right here at the Big A.  That race was a little shorter, but she has shown her strength running longer at the track where the trainer reigns supreme, FL.

Prediction: 2-4-1-3
