El Camino – Grade III [KYD]
GG Race #6 1 1/8m Dirt Graded Stake
Purse $200.00 For Three Year Olds.
1 Above The law, trained by Mb Stables
The first of no less than three entries from the mega stable this one has to carry a penalty for his rather impressive win in the Sham Stakes. It would be easy to write him off with that extra weight but he isnt without a chance of following up from the ace draw. His big advantage is that he will eat up this trip, something which is very important in these KYD qualifiers and as Mb Stables paid $255 for him last year you would have to assume he has plenty of stable confidence about him.
2 Tumultous, trained by Red Square Stables
Only just lasted home in a muddy sprint maiden but ended the year with a huge effort to be second in the LA Futurity. He flew late that day but with pretty average works since i am afraid its a wait and see day for him.
3 Tipsy Indian, trained by Joseph Racing
Campaigned on the turf he ran well for a long way in the BC Juvenile turf before taking a break. He resumed with a run on the dirt and he did well to be beaten just a half length in a competitive Allowance at FG. He is working well and with Allowances and graded stakes being so close these days there seems no reason he cant get in the mix.
4 Pure Admiral, trained by Grimley
Still a maiden but it has to be said, a pretty good one. His work times are more impressive than his efforts so far but with a $175 price tag hanging over his head the trainer will be hoping for a big effort today.
5 Red Broomstick, trained by Mb Stables
The winner of both the Bashford Manor and the Iroquois he ran a great race in the BC Juvenile to be beaten just one length. Drawn wide on reappearance he stayed on behind his stable companion to be fifth beaten three lengths in The Sham Stakes a pretty good effort in the circumstances. I can see him turning the tables on his stablemate and his works are up there with the best of these so a big effort will be expected.
6 Keep It Lit, trained by First Class Stable
Has been campaigned in overnights but has been doing pretty well and comes in here with a punchers chance. His win at the end of last year was nice and he very nearly followed that up in an ungraded stakes last time out. Not among the top chances but not to be overlooked.
7 Champsville Sweeper, trained by Axeman
Made hay in the state bred races last year but was asked to step up on his seasonal reappearance when taking on the Lecomte. He made the running that day weakening late on to be fourth and will strip fitter for today. His works arent bad and he deserves another shot at the big time today.
8 Winged Feeney, trained by Four Winds Racing
He was burning the grass on the gallops prior to his seasonal reappearance and duly won with impressive ease in a PRX Allowance. Clearly he loves a trip and is working well enough to upset the top ones.
9 Greek Life, trained by Mb Stables
The third stable entry and on paper the most exciting. Unbeaten in four races he had been mopping up at the little tracks before taking the CA Derby on his reappearance. That win certainly put him into the KYD picture but he has a wide gate to overcome today and a fifth straight win may be difficult to achieve.
SUMMARY
Winged Feeney may well be better than his bare form suggests but i am more tempted by Red Broomstick who should appreciate his better draw today. Champsville Sweeper and Tipsy Indian are worth a look and you cant leave out Above The Law.
