CT Classic Looks Atomic Twister’s Chance to String Two Wins Together

CT Classic – Grade II

Dirt
Graded Stake
Purse $1,250.000  For Four Year Olds And Upward.
1 Atomic Twister, trained by Blushing Meadows
One of the two races he won last year was the BC Classic, the other was the grade one Wood Memorial. In between he ran some good races at top level and some ordinary ones but i think everyone knew this horse was knocking at the door of greatness before he proved it on BC day. He was huge in the SA Handicap  last time out winning as he liked by two lengths and if he is anywhere near his brilliant best from the ace draw he will be nigh unbeatable in this race.
2 Swiss Bank Account, trained by Threshold
A bit of an enigma he won the BC Marathon at three but has never really lived up to that effort since. A great draw will see him at an advantage and he may get a shock placing if he puts his best foot forward.
3 The Hanging Tree, trained by Mb Stables
A very interesting entry as the only filly in the race she is a triple grade one winner who is working as fast as the boys but gets the 5Lb mares allowance which on work times puts her at the front. Can a filly win, well that is the only question, if she was a colt with the same work times and record on equal terms she would be very much in this race so you cant rule out what would cause ripples at HRP should she win.
4 Gentile Ll Buono, trained by Sc Lanciano
Behind Atomic Twister and getting weight in the SA Handicap there should be no way he can get in front of that one in this race. HRP rarely gives us two form lines the same though and he is a capable sort running from a decent draw. I liked his second in the San Antonio and he runs with a just of the pace style that will be suited by this track. A good entry that will be an attactive each way bet at good odds.
5 Give Your All, trained by Mb Stables
Stretches out for only the second time in his career and certainly adds interest in a great looking race. It takes pace to hold a decent position on this tight track and this one has oodles of it as he proved when taking the Malibu, The Vosburgh and The Kings Bishop last year. In all those races he was closing hard from the back to win and may have won the BC Sprint with an extra furlong too. Two good runs in sprint company will have got him spot on for this race and he looks ready to stretch out over this trip.
6 Ufc Morals, trained by Tiratzo
Another sprinter convert he never looked like the potential router that Give You All looks but HRP is a funny place and horses seem to make the transition easier than they do in real life. That was never more obvious than the Pegasus World Cup where he out stayed his rivals for a shock one length win over a trip he never looked like he could get. He gets another chance to prove his staying power today and on that last start he must have every chance of a huge double.
7 Copper Beast, trained by John Henry
Won the Travers as a three year old and ended his season with a huge effort to be a closing second in the BC Classic. He looked set for another good season when running on to be fourth in the Pegasus but then ran an absolute stinker in the SA Handicap. That last start is just another HRP mystery but if you ignore it he would be right in this race with a big chance.
8 Black Mojo, trained by Mb Stables
Like most of these top horses has many confusing form lines which criss cross in a web of punter confusion. Behind Copper Best in The Travers but ahead of him in The Haskell, a whisker behind in the BC Classic when third but ahead again in The Pegasus. So take your pin out for these two because there are few clues as to which order they will finish in today. Both ran poor races in the SA Handicap but out of the two this one looks like he has trained on better and he would be my tip to win the two horse race. As for beating the rest well thats really not a readable book.
9 Dogs Infowarrior, trained by Grimley
Came off a run of poor races to bounce back in The Skipaway last time. We will either get that sort of form or his 13th in the BC Classic and there are few clues as to which horse we will see today. On the plus side he is on top form on the minus side he never runs well from a wide draw, i really dont know how to weigh up his chances so will avoid him today.
10 Thats The Truth, trained by TwinTowersRacing
A decent sort in lesser grade he was in that SA handicap and ran pretty well to be eighth but didnt do enough to suggest to me he can make this grade at the moment. Place chances seem best.
11 Democratic Politician, trained by Kopites
Twice a grade three winner including last time out in the RBC Handicap he comes from a stable that has hit a good streak at the moment. He is working well enough to be a threat but i am not sure he is up to the likes of Atomic Twister on anything he has done so far.
12 Edwin Drood, trained by Sanny Village
The winner of last years WV Derby he was storming home in the BC Classic to be a close fifth and on that form is right in this race with about six others who share similar form. He ran a great race in The Malibu on seasonal debut running on to be third over a trip far too short for him. This is certainly his best distance but a wide draw wont make it easy for him and the tactics will play a major role in his winning chances.
13 Snowmizer, trained by DJC Racing Stables
Has been in all the top races but continues to show he is just below this grade. A wide draw wont help him but he is working well and takes his chance in a race that is completely at the mercy of tactics pace and that special bit of HRP luck.
14 Skeleton Balle, trained by Oval Express Farms
The winners of last years BC Marathon he ran well enough in the Skipaway to suggest he is still a capable sort. The draw makes it tough but he will eat up every yard of this trip and takes his chances at getting the right roll of the dice.
SUMMARY
Well if you tried to actually draw some form lines for this race you would end up with a web of criss crossing lines and would almost certainly give up and walk away. So forgetting any depth in form you need to look at the track and the likely pace of this race. If Atomic Twister is on song he will win from the draw especially if he can break onto the pace. The Hanging Tree and Give Your All are very interesting entries and as luck would have it have been drawn well for the champion trainer so should be in the finish.Copper Beast, Black Mojo, Ufc Morals and Edwin Drood will be a part of the finish with a bit fairy dust on their side.
