An Even Field of Five Line Up in the Levine Stakes

The Levine Stakes, Purse $100, Ungraded, 7 Furlongs, Dirt for 3+

A field of 5 three year old horses line up to run an extended sprint in this years edition of the Levine Stakes.     Let’s take a look at the field:

1-Blad Of Maahes (D J C Racing Stables)- Has won 5 out of 30 career starts with an astonishing 10 second place finishes. He has not won since March of 2104 in an OC race going 5.5 furlongs. Since that race he has seen nothing but stakes races and most of those races were at the graded level. He has also managed just 2 second place finishes in that same time frame. His public work times are just fast enough for owner D J C Racing Stable to keep giving him shots but it looks as if this horses best racing may be behind him. With that said he still could be dangerous in this spot.

2-T S Ten (Night Rider Stables)- Has won 7 out of 31 career starts with 9 second place finishes. His most recent win came back in June of 2014 in an OC race at today’s distance. Since the race the horse has managed just one second place finish but has run predominantly in stakes races. His public works coming into the race are nice and this one is not without a shot in this race.

3-Lonley Town (Emerald Racing Inc)- Comes into the race in good form winning 3 out of his last 5 starts. The most recent win was two races back in an overnight stake going 6 furlongs on the dirt. He was stepped up into a Grade 3 race after that win, and finished 7th beaten 2 lenghts. He is being moved back to the ungraded level which should help him. The work times look good coming into this race and he has a shot at continuing his good run of form.

4-Forrest Bay (La Canada Racing)- Has not missed the board in any of his races since December of 2014. These races have all been of the OC variety and he won his most recent start going 6.5 furlongs in May of 2015. He also boasts an OC win at todays longer sprint distances. He is taking the next most logical step up and looks to have found a nice spot to run. His works coming into this race show that he belongs in this group. Just like the other horses he looks like he may be there right in the end.

5-Montalcino (Alabarda Stables) Is the most lightly raced horse coming into the race. He won is most recent start sprinting on the dirt in an OC in a nice time. That win was his first shot at sprinting since his maiden voyage and it appeared to wake him up.   He looks like he may be closing in this race so he has to hope for a nice pace to set it up for him. Like I have said about every other horse in this race he looks like he could be there in the end.

Very rarely do I see a race where all of the runners that are entered in the race appear as if they could take turns beating each other. That is what I see here in this race, and I feel it should be a mad dash to the finish  Here is my prediction. 5-2-1-3
