A Born Dancer used a determined rally from the back of the pack to give his trainer, Maxmillion Farm, his second victory in the $200.000 G3 Greenwood Cup at PRX. Crossing the wire in 2:28.91, the 5yo gelding finished the 12-furlong dirt race a length ahead of Spirited Stride.
At the start, Dauzac and Market Value went to the front and disputed the pace. They were well in front of Sofa King Rich as that runner was a solo third. When the leading duo passed under the wire for the first time, completing the opening half-mile in :49.43, the eventual winner could see them all some seven lengths back and on the rail.
After running three-quarters in 1:14.01, it was Market Value putting his nose in front of Dauzac as they began their run down the PRX backstretch. That duo was five lengths clear of Sofa King Rich as Spirited Stride joined that runner. A Born Dancer moved off of the rail and had one horse beat at the halfway point of the 12-furlong journey, but the backstretch would be where the race’s shape would change. As the horses approached the final turn, Market Value was alone up front as Dauzac started his retreat. Four and five lengths back, respectively, Spirited Stride and A Born Dancer were advancing on the leader, but still had work to do.
At the top of the lane, A Born Dancer had passed every horse save Market Value and he was cutting in on that one’s lead with every stride. Just outside the 1/16 pole, A Born Dancer found his way to the front. Market Value was second, but Spirited Stride was on his flank and Bring The Pain was making a run in the center of the track. At the wire, it was A Born Dancer a length in front of Spirited Stride. That runner was a neck in front of the game Market Value; Bring The Pain was another neck back in fourth. Pink N Bold, Dauzac, and Sofa King Rich completed the order of finish.
A Born Dancer (Born To Be Bad o/o Belly Dancer) improved to 18-4-3-1 with the win and has now earned $327.660. Congratulations to Maxmillion Farm and A Born Dancer on their victory in the $200.000 G3 Greenwood Cup at PRX!
