This one has some nice blood through its pedigree so it was a little surprising that he was gelded before his debut win in a BEL maiden Claimer. He had to wait a while for the race calendar to catch up but when we saw him again he ran a hard closing second in an LS Allowance. Blessed with his third good draw in a row he is working nicely and looks well placed here to pick up some of the purse.
2 If Only You Believe La Canada Racehorses Castellano J J
The stables two year olds have been doing very well and though this one didn’t win the SAR Special last time out he ran pretty well from a rotten draw. Previously he had been dominant in his maiden win and his works are continuing along the lines of a decent prospect. Drawn perfectly today this may be the choice for the win.
3 Encore Fractious Gomez J A
An easy maiden win at FL was not backed up in the Victoria Stakes last time when he ran a pretty poor ninth never really looking like a contender. The stable will be eager to get him out of the gate quicker this time and his works are pretty good so with if he wins the gate lottery i would expect a much better effort.
4 Sirius Black Arindel Prat F
How many times do we see the two stable entries lined up next to each other and here again we see two of Arindel’s keeping each other company in nice gate positions. There isn’t much to chose between the stable mates both of whom won their debut’s and both of whom ran well without winning in big ticket maidens last time out. Strangely neither have been that lucky with the draw and today they are and tactics will play an important role in how they finish. This one has had both sets of running styles as has the other one and looked a little better coming frm midpack than he did when leading last time.
5 Hot Shark Arindel Gaffalione T
Over all this one looks the pick of the two stable mates running better in his second start when hitting the line well to be second in a big ticket allowance on this track. I expect this one to beat his stable mate and he has the works and form to be a contender for the win.
6 Default Setting Mb Stables Davis D
He has done very well with wide draws in both of his races so far and gets a better gate position today making him an attractive proposition. I like the way he finished to take a decent maiden last time but he drops back in trip for this whereas i feel his future may be at longer trips. If the pace is fast i can see him using that proven stamina here.
7 Youll Be A Soldier Nakamura Stables Leparoux J R
Just got up to win on the turf last time over a longer trip his form is a tough read for a race like this and whilst he looks to have ability there maybe a couple too sharp for him in this race at this trip.
8 Apple Dumpling Gang Oquinn Farm Ferrer J C
Only won a poor maiden at FP by a gnats whisker but his recent work of 1.10 and 4 suggests he is much better than that and has improved a lot. The work is the only thing we have to go on here but it was good enough to win even from this difficult gate.
9 Tough Customer Mb Stables Garcia Mar
His form is also tough to read with two runs on wet tracks recently and a decent debut on a dry track way back in April. Wet track for can be very hard to weigh up and so far this one hasn’t shown much early pace which may mean he drops back from the wide draw and may struggle to make ground on some decent types. If anyone can muster a change of running style with a click of their magic buttons it is Mb though so write him off at your peril.
10 Back Mi Ratchet Night Rider Stables Carmouche K
His form has built nicely taking a maiden on this track last time after some good efforts in big ticket maidens prior. His works are pretty good but from this wide draw he may go forward again which didn’t work out for him in a CD maiden the time before last so i am worried that he wont get to run his race which ideally would be from midpack.
SUMMARY
A nice competitive field where If Only You Believe looks the form choice. Hot Shark and Default Setting may be the biggest rivals but i am also watching Apple Dumpling Gang after that lightening work.
