7 BEL The Acorn (GI)
$500.000 3yoF 1m Dirt 122 lbs
The sophomore fillies will be on display as we look at The Acorn (GI), a flat mile dirt stakes with a huge purse and you know what that means, the big barns bring the big horses. You know me, if Feral Impact is around, I’m picking her, so yeah… I’m picking her. She beat the boys in the Day Mile (GII) and that’s about all you need to know. Let’s put Power Walk in the second spot… you have to keep Mb in your sights for races like this. She was fourth in the KYD (GI) and beat the boys in the ARK Derby (GI).
It is a loaded field and this may be one of the best fields I’ve ever seen assembled. Let’s grab a cold snack and head down to the rail for what should be one heck of a race.
Here’s The Field –
I think I’ve made my feelings for this filly known… she is a badass, no doubt about it. Took down the boys in the Day Mile (GII) at CD on KYD day and was the favorite in that race… that speaks volume. I look for her to be the one to get past again today and she will have my $2.
Another monster filly that can flat out run with the best of them. Just missed in the Eight Bells (GII) where she was in a DH for the place. She won a smaller stakes at TP as well and you have to keep an eye on her. She has some real talent and looks ready to fire a big race.
Has struggled a bit vs. graded horses but was third to kick off the ’21 season when vs. graded horses at GP. She won an OptAlw race at SA in quick time, so her best could land her a minor share of the pot.
The Big Barn has a group in today and this one certainly can get the job done. Three wins already this year including the ARK Derby (GI) beating the boys, and she was fourth in the KYD, which certainly makes her a horse that has to be given a serious look today.
Another Mb Stables entrant and she really has proven to be a sharp auction purchase breaking maiden at first asking then taking the GP Oaks (GII) by a head. She just never got going in the KY Oaks (GI) where she was ninth, so she needs to turn it around a bit today.
Very nice filly that has never won a graded race, but put away some nice money in the Busher, then ran poorly vs. the boys in the BG Sakes (GII) only to bounce back nicely in the KY Oaks where she was second beaten a length. I look for her to run big here in this one.
Lightly raced but she hasn’t done anything wrong yet. Three for three, breaking maiden for $8.000 then taking an Alw race and the FG Oaks (GII) she sold after that win, and not for $8.000. She has to be considered in the top group again.
Got her second win on a big stage taking the Black Eyed Susan (GII) on PRK Day and that after running third at KEE IN the Ashland (GI) so she look like she’s ready to run big and may be overlooked a bit a the window.
Nice third in the Black Eyed Susan (GII) and won the Gazelle (GIII) at AQU three back. She was a top 2yo coming into the season and certainly can run with any type of horse. Her best might take this.
She’s been kind of a hit and miss type but when she hits, she hits hard. won the Las Virgenes (GIII) and the SA Oaks (GII), but was seventh in both the Honeybee (GIII) and KY Oaks (GI). So who do we get for this one?
Big win in the Ashland (GI) but came back to be fifth in the KY Oaks (GI). She’s been around in just about every start this year, and she certainly knows how to bring a check home. Her tactical speed is a nice weapon, so let’s see how she goes after this group from the outside post.
