The MD Sprint Stakes – Grade III
6 Furlongs Dirt Stake Purse $150.000 Open 3 Year Olds And Up.
1 Napa Mo Mentum Farm Pimentel J
I guess the trainer will be praying for rain as this one has won his last two on an off track but this is not a one trick pony and could take advantage of the inside draw and the weight allowance. Good enough as a juvenile to get a start in the Pilgrim unfortunately he failed to stay there but has been much more successful since a return to sprinting. Yet to run out of his age group we really can’t be sure what will happen today but he is one of those that if he wins we will all be nodding and saying i thought so.
2 Cherokee Asset Rock Creek Elliott S
Worked hard from off the pace to win the Thorncliffe Stakes last time and gets a nice draw to try and follow up here. My only worry is his ability to lay up on a solid sprinting pace but if he managed to get a soft run he could well be there fighting at the end.
3 Demon Wood Duck Stables Franco M
When he won the San Vincente in January he looked like he would be taking the stable to the TC but a fairly weak effort in the Rebel convinced them that his immediate future may be in sprinting and he came back to run a real solid third in the Lafayette Stakes last time. He has a touch of class about him and as long as he doesn’t get used up too soon could well be the answer in a tricky field.
4 Hang Around Nakamura Stables Carrasco V R
This five year old has been around the block but faces the three year old weight allowance today and will have to be on his toes. Known more for his routing achievements recently he has sprinted well before most notably when winning last years Cartier Stakes. He is a little difficult to weigh up over this trip but as we all know routers can sprint at HRP even if that doesn’t tend to work so well the other way round.
5 Electric Angelos Stable Centeno D E
At the start of the year this one was running 12 furlongs and two months later was winning at six so it is safe to say it has taken a while for the trainer to get a handle on him. His works suggest sprinting and his solid third in the Kona Stakes last time says that too so we may be seeing the best of him today.
SUMMARY
A tricky race with the three year old weight allowance to think about. Electric and Hang Around look solid types but Demon has a touch of class and may be the best pick.
