7 GP The Canadian Turf (GIII)
$125.000 4yo&Up 1 1/16m Turf 124lbs +penalties
Don’t give up on them too soon… that is Bubba Kush‘s suggestion to all owners and trainers as the 8yo closed from well back to take The Canadian Turf (GIII) on a big day of racing here at GP. The bay gelding was three-quarters of a length in front of post time favorite and my top choice Annihilator, who secured the second spot with his patented late kick. Brain Power was a neck back in third with Dangerous Chai getting the minor money in this mile and a sixteenth turf stakes – this race had been run at a flat mile for the past thirteen renditions. The final running time was 1:39.34.
Bubba Kush is an 8yo bay gelded son of Tetra Moon – Look Higher by Look Back, and he was bred in Fla by Keikowin Racing. Acquired by Threshold via private purchase for $10.000, it appears that this was the old boys first graded stakes win. This was his first win of the season, fourteenth victory from forty-four starts, and he now shows earnings of $606.660… and he doesn’t seem to be done yet!

Bubba Kush broke in hand, rated off of the pace while racing mid-pack, inched forward through the far turn, battled down the lane to win driving. Annihilator rated back tracking just off of the pace, lost some position through the turn, good late kick. Brain Power broke well, tracked the leader into the lane, not enough late. Dangerous Chai raced evenly throughout. Puget Sound started slowly, passed tiring rivals in the drive. Bubble Bubble broke alertly, set the pace into the lane, headed, tired. Manifestation was forwardly placed, tired. Plucky Ben alert start, just off of the pace, tired. Defy was off a step slow, never involved. Magne Account was outrun. Financial Peace poor start, no factor. Lord City broke poorly, outrun.
