1st Aime La Nature Our Athletes Lopez P

This was a nice step up from the home bred filly as she took up a position at the back of the field for the first half of the race but wasn’t too far back and finished well for a game head win. She looks to have strengthened nicely from her third in the Durante last year and after a pipe opener over a shorter trip she looked right on the mark for today’s assignment. With a 50%-win strike rate she is building a nice record and looks like she will be a decent miler going forward.

2nd Fire Chief Bigking Ortiz I Jr

Went to the lead and was pretty much unchallenged before being caught close home by the closers. This was a great effort by this filly which was claimed for just $16.000 at the end of last year and one that will have the stable grinning from ear to ear.

3rd Haukea High Voltage Velazquez J R

Stalked the lead but was a little one paced when asked to make her challenge. It is difficult to know whether she needs shorter or longer looking at her body of work or indeed if she would welcome a go back on dirt but there is ability there, I just feel that some of it is untapped. Still a good effort beaten less than a length.

4th The Lady Of Sod Nakamura Stables Gallardo A A

Came from a long way back to be a never dangerous fourth and was a little disappointing. That may be because of the short break between runs as she won the CAC Oaks in a similar time and pace with a normal break between races so at this point, we can only assume that she will be back to her best after a longer break.
