Bessarabian Stakes – Grade III
WO Race #1 7f Dirt Graded Stake
Purse $135.000 For Fillies And Mares Three Years Old And Upward.
1 Atomic Woman Williams9 Pinto M 123 —
A filly that has been a bit in and out and has found three new owners this year. She won at overnight level over this trip last time, making all and holding on by a nose so this draw should suit that style again as she bids to repay the new owner a bit more. Working well enough, she hasn’t set the world alight on the track but has proved very capable and should again be right in the fight.
2 Spring Street High Voltage Husbands P 123 —
A regular in sprints at this level she took out the Vagrancy Handicap back in May and has run pretty well without winning since. The gaming buttons were clicked last time in the ONT Fashion Stakes but after showing up early she faded badly in the final furlong. Prior to that she had been more of a closing type and I would say her best form was in that role running from the same gate as her best run of the year if she goes back and runs home as well as she did that day, she should have a winning chance.
3 Coffee Trauma The Freakshow Moreno O 120 —
She was running up a nice sequence of wins before a blip in her last two, but she got back to winning ways last time over this trip and must be a chance with the 3Lb age allowance. Expect her to be mid-pack or worse early and to come on strong at the end and although that route can be perilous, she has a good enough finish if things go her way.
4 Procomp La Canada Racehorses Vanek H M 120 —
A natural stalker she has won her last two, both over this trip so looks to be a good hat trick chance in this race. Third in the SA Oaks she has shown both speed and stamina with a natural style that suits this engine so there are plenty of ticks in boxes here.
5 Full Of Storm Spb Racing Salles L 120 —
A lightly raced three-year-old who has been consistent in overnights, she looks to step up here against older fillies and mares. This race may come a bit soon for her, but she is capable of a good showing.
6 Lorient TwinTowersRacing Moran D 123 —
Won the Distaff Handicap over this trip back in April but hasn’t made the top four in five attempts since. A highly tried mare, she certainly has the ability to win on her day but will have to work out where to travel from a difficult draw. She may go back and then it is down to luck as to where she ends up with a furlong to run.
7 Memphis Reins Choppy Inc. Wilson E J 120 —
An improving three-year-old with a good racing style for the engine, she may well get some outside speed push here and that should put her up front where she likes to be. A game winner last time over this trip and has won two in a row over the seven furlongs but her winning times were just a bit slower than her rivals so she will have to improve again to win.
8 So Classy Asgar Kimura K 123 —
Gets the car park here but is another that on her day could easily win this. Her work times have been improving which can happen at this time of year with four-year-olds and whilst she has had plenty of chances and won only four there is nothing like an upward moving improvement curve.
SUMMARY
A tough race as always to call but I think I just favor Procomp here with the 3Lb age allowance. I reckon Spring Street and Coffee Trauma may be the two to chase her home.
