Angel Shark Wins KD Ladies Turf from Outside

KD Ladies Turf (Grade 3)- $600.000 Purse
KD- For Fillies and Mares Three Years Old and Upward
One Mile on the Turf
September 7, 2019

Starting from the outside would not prove to be a detriment to Angel Shark, a three year old filly that was making her third start in seven weeks. She is on a roll right now, and after this win, must be considered one of the top threats in the BC Fillies and Mares Turf. It is a division that we don’t talk about all that much in comparison to the other BC races in the months that lead up to it, but trainer Maxmillion Farm is certainly looking really good for that race. That is certainly not a surprise, since he is one of the top, if not the best, turf trainer in the game. This was just the third time stake has run, so we don’t have the long history to look at, but Maxmillion and jockey D E Centeno win the race for the first time. Congratulations to them! The time of the win was 1:33.25, the second quickest ever.

(1/4 Mile- :23.07)- No one is particularly hurried out of the gate here, and emerging with the lead at this point is Sillian, for D J C Racing Stables, pulling a way just a little bit from Chili King Stables’ Bagina and Mb Stables’ Festive. In close proximity are Festive (Team 7 Illusions) and La Terrifiant (Our Athletes), and Fomalhaut (John Henry) as the start of the race was a little uneventful. Stormy Embrace (Mb Stables) and Alligator (Maxmillion Farm) were to the inside and also within two and a half lengths. Nancy Broom Moytoy (Team 7 Illusions) is two lengths behind them. The only interesting move, really, at the start, was from the eventual winner, Angel Shark, for Maxmillion Farm, who immediately dropped to the back and well off the pace right from the start. This did allow her to get to the inside, and given the way the horses were spread out at the front, this was very beneficial. She had seven lengths to make up, but has come from off the pace before.

(½ Mile- :46.41)- Down the backstretch, and moving into this track’s long turn, we did not see much change at the front. Sillian gets company from Festive at the front end, but they are maintaining an honest pace at this point. Bagina, La Terrifiant, Fomalhaut, Alligator, Validation, and Stormy Embrace were all within two lengths, racing in very close quarters, still. Those trainers were just hoping for the right lanes and not to be interfered with. Nancy Broom Moytoy and Angel Shark watched it unfold in front of them, with Angel Shark six lengths from the front.

(Top Of Stretch, 2F To Go)- Some separation begins now with Festive pulling away from the rest of the field with a length and a half lead. As Sillian now dropped out of it, the new second place horses were Stormy Embrace, close to the rail; and La Terrifiant, who probably ran a mile and a sixteenth today with her wide trip. Bagina and Validation, like Sillian were unable to keep up, and Fomalhaut had no response. Alligator was coming up flat. Nancy Broom Moytoy began making a move, taking advantage of an inside lane, while Angel Shark began making her move near the exit of the turn, moving to the money lane, with four and a half lengths to make up.

(Finish- 1:33.25)- Angel Shark’s push to the victory was not immediately overpowering. With a little less then a furlong to go, just as she was pulling up to the side out La Terrifiant, she turned it on a little more, seeing there was still one more to beat. Festive maintained a consistent stride, but this was not enough to hold off the close of Angel Shark, who scores the win. Festive hangs on for second over her stablemate, Stormy Embrace, with La Terrifiant taking fourth. The next five were in a line across the track with the official order being Nancy Broom Moytoy, Alligator, Fomalhaut, Bagina, and Validation. Sillian was two lengths behind them

About The Winner- Angel Shark, trained by Maxmillion Farm and ridden to victory by D E Centeno, is a three year old filly by City Of Angels, and is out of Look Higher. She was bred in New York by Keikowin Racing as a third quarter two year old, and acquired by Maxmillion in private sales for $100.000 last October. Congratulations to the connections! The win is her sixth in ten starts, her fourth stake win, and third graded. Her career earnings are now $708.060.
