Anna D Headlines Mrs Revere Field

Mrs Revere (Grade 2)- $200.000 Purse
CD- For Fillies Three Years Old
One Mile and One Sixteenth on the Turf
November 14, 2020

The 18th running of the Mrs Revere has the largest purse of any of the races taking place this weekend, as BC hangover continues. That has not kept us from having a good field with accomplished runners here that may have been just below the cut line for the BC, as a total of nine fillies will head to the starting gate. Last year, the race was won by Angelos Stable and Rules Are Madness, a filly that did run in the BC Fillies and Mares Turf last week, and seemed as though she could have a decent shot to win, but never was a factor. Other past winners include Halfbaked, Millionaire Heiress, and the late Maahes. The $200.000 purse does represent a $100.000 deduction from last year, however, before that the purse was $200.000 for many years, so consider it a return to the normal level. Let’s take a look now at those going to post.

#1- Lovin Spoonful (Nakamura Stables, ridden by M Mena)- Lightly raced filly by Summer of Love will be looking for her fourth win in seven starts here. As long as the weather cooperates, she has been successful, as we saw in the Grade 2 Nassau at WO in May, when she was second. Then the rains came for her last start, the BEL Oaks, and she was quite awful. After about four months to think about it, she will try to bounce back here.

#2- Sheza Kat (John Henry, ridden by C J Lanerie)- Picked up in private sales five days after making her graded debut unsuccessfully in July for $100.000. John Henry was not put off by that at all, and actually moved her up from that, into the Grade 1 DMR Oaks, and she would run second. Later, she showed that was not a fluke by running fourth in the Grade 1 QE II Challenge Cup. One of three that comes here off of that race.

#3- Goblin Judge (Wood Duck Stables, ridden by R Bejarano)- The PA-bred has won three of seven races this year, highlighted by capturing the Grade 3 Pucker Up Stakes at AP back in August. That win followed up winning an open allowance a month prior. However, she was not able to build on that, fading badly in the Grade 1 Rodeo Drive at SA in late September. Thankfully, she will not run ten furlongs here, and will also not have to start from post #11. That might be all it takes.

#4- Joan Of Arc (Calia Stable, ridden by J J Castellano)- After breaking her maiden in May, the Commanding filly ran 2nd in the Grade 3 Regret. At the time, things were looking up for her, but she has not been able to take another step forward, failing to hit the board in her last three starts. The good news there is that she is not being badly beaten, and ends up in the middle of the field. More of the same might be the order of the day here, however.

#5- Intanga Rose (D J C Racing Stables, ridden by Mar Garcia)- This horse either wins, or fails to hit the board entirely. In ten starts, she has four wins, but none in the second and third spots. After winning the $100.000 Hilltop at PIM in May, she went into a bit of a funk, but the trainer stayed with her. That persistence was rewarded as she won the Grade 3 Valley View last month. Was it a fluke, or is a new hot streak coming? Bet in accordance to your answer..

#6- Mrs Nussbaums Credit (Arindel, ridden by T Gaffalione)- I’m beginning to think that I am the only writer that has ever covered this horse. After all, I see her constantly. Initially, I liked her and was impressed by her, and she played with my emotions in the Mabee Stakes. However, more often than not lately, I have not been talking about her much in all those recaps. At least this time she has had more than eight days of rest.

#7- Hallowed Halls (Rock Creek, ridden by F De La Cruz)- Picked up by the trainer during the September auction for $30.010, and Rock Creek would move her to the grass for the first time last month. It would also be her stake debut of any sort, as she ran in the Grade 2 Sands Point at BEL and finished second. That’s pretty impressive given how new things were to her, and it is very interesting to see how she follows that up here. This is a tougher crowd, but she has a good shot here. My second choice.

#8- Trending El Gran (Greyfriars Stable, ridden by A Beschizza)- 2020 has been a struggle for the trainer, as they have not won any of their 74 starts this year. Despite that, they spent $75.000 to acquire Trending El Gran from Fractious last month, and here she will run for her new trainer for the first time. She’s won her last two, including the $80.000 Mrs Penny in her last start against three other PA-breds, and overall has been first or second in four of five starts.

#9- Anna D (Smokey Stover, ridden by J R Velazquez)- The trainer is not shy about spending a lot of money on a horse that he likes, and with Anna D, it cost $500.000 to get her from Night Mare Racing. Her best start leading up to the sale was a runner up showing in the $625.000 SAR Oaks. Last month, she made her debut in Smokey’s silks, and ran quite well in the Grade 1 QE II Challenge Cup. Now, with more time in this barn, things would seem promising for her to have another big run here. I think she will.
