2 AQU The May
$100.000 3yoF Foaled in NY 1m Dirt 122lbs +penalties
Class may be hard to describe, uneasy to accept… but will hit you right in the face. Antiquated Story flexed hers on Sunday taking The May by a neck in a final time of 1:354 for the flat mile and claiming the win by a fast closing neck. 89/1 shot Slytherin was second, just a head in front of Seditious, capping big exacta and trifecta payoffs.
The field of NY-bred ladies were away from the gate in good order with Loch Nell, Antiquated Story and Dana Scully showing good early speed, towards the rail the trio of Ete Creek, Seditious and Simple Truths, Slytherin behind that group, Rubber Bullet next to that one and Queens Admiral was the early trailer.
Making their way down the backside in this one-turn mile event, Dana Scully had skipped off to lead by two and a half lengths. Rubber Bullet was wide and chasing the leader, Lock Nell crossing over and now hugging the rail, Ete Creek in behind that pair, Simple Truths on the outside of that one, Antiquated Story a length back and skimming the rail, Slytherin on her flank, Seditious and Queens Admiral could still see them all.
Now making their way around the turn and to the top of the lane with two furlongs let to run, Ete Creek moved up and took control to lead by two lengths. A wall of three in tow including Loch Nell, Rubber Bullet and Dana Scully on the rail, Simple Truths just behind that group, widest of all, Antiquated Story finding a bit of light between horses, then a gap to Seitious, Slytherin and Queens Admiral continued to be the back marker.
Down the land and to the finish, this one was changing with every jump, and Antiquated Story emerged with a narrow lead, Slytherin trying to press that one, but there was no denying Antiquated Story and she went under the wire in front by a neck. Slytherin held off Seditious for the second spot, then post time favorite Loch Neil in fourth. Queens Admiral made a late gain for fith, Ete Creek flattening to be sixth, Simple Truths in seventh, Rubber Bullet in eighth and Dana Scully last in the field of nine.
Antiquated Story is a 3yo grey filly by Jaya Ten – Charlottes Appeal, by Powerful Appeal, and she was bred by her owner, Nakamura Stables in NY. This was her second win from six starts, her first stakes score and she now has earnings of $130.900.

Antiquated Story broke alertly, was taken back to mid-pack, responded when asked to contend, took the lead into the lane and held off all contenders. Slytherin lacked early
speed, trailed, moved swiftly through the lane, dueled to the finish. Seditious lacked early speed, best foot late in a good effort. Loch Nell forwardly placed, clear shot, did not respond. Queens Admiral trailed, some late foot while no threat. Ete Creek away a
bit slow, up to press, lead into the lane, tired from there. Simple Truths mid pack while close to the lead, flattened. Rubber Bullet tracked the pace to mid lane, tired. Dana
Scully away well, lead to the turn, nothing left.
