Saturday’s action at GP will include the thirteenth running of the Harlan, a Grade 3 on the main track that goes a mile and a sixteenth. The race debuted on the schedule in 2011, but only would begin being held every year once it gained graded status in 2016.

Field Quality in Janus Far Exceeds Its Purse Level
The Janus may “only” be a $125.000 ungraded stake, but that has not stopped four horses that ran in BC races last month from participating in it. That’s partially due to limited opportunities for turf sprinters this time of year, but it does give this race a feel of one that should go for double the purse.

Tropical Park Oaks May Become Travers Day
Down at GP this Saturday, we will have the 18th running of the Tropical Park Oaks, a $125.000 ungraded stake on the turf. The race debuted on the schedule in 2005, though has not been held in every year.

Never In Charge Makes Charge to Win The Comely
Heading into the Comely on Sunday, Never In Charge was the least experienced filly in the field, having made just four starts and none of them were at the stake level. She had made the most of those races, entering the race on a three race win streak as she took on graded competition for the first time.

Don’t Ever Try It Tries and Succeeds in Valedictory Stakes
The two horse battle that we were anticipating in the Valedictory Stakes never materialized, but that’s just fine with Night Rider Stables. While his Dangerous Fugitive did not step up, Don’t Ever Try It would in his place, coming from behind to win by about a length.

Ten Fillies in Action Sunday at AQU for The Comely
Sunday’s action at AQU will include the 21st running of The Comely, which is for three year old fillies at a mile and an eighth on the main track. There will be ten that take part, hoping to get the winner’s share of the $200.000 purse.

Valedictory Stakes Looks Dangerous and Cheap
Up north on Saturday, we will have the sixteenth edition of the Valedictory Stakes, which is for horses that like to keep on running and running, at a mile and a half on the main track. The details for the race have been constant through time, remaining a Grade 3 since 2011, and little movement with the purse level.

General Zod Leads Royalty Stables to Win in Clark
Earlier this month, General Zod ran in the BC Sprint and had not gone at least a mile since the end of June. He was second in the $300.000 Hanshin that day, but had become inconsistent at the longer distances. In the Grade 2 Clark, General Zod would have no issue with nine furlongs as he grabbed the win.

Firefish Prevails in Photo at Mrs Revere
Firefish made her debut this August, so she is still looking to make a name for herself amongst three year old fillies, but she is certainly on the right track in doing so. The Mrs Revere was just her fifth career race, and her second graded start.
